Suzumi is currently a third-year student completing her bachelor’s degree in Public Health at UTS. She is majoring in Global Health and chose to pursue her placement position with WHO CCNM due to her interest in global health policy, promotion and program management.

Suzumi’s studies in public health, especially in global systems, helped contextualise her experience and deepen her engagement. She began her time at the centre by supporting the Pacific Leadership Program (PLP), a two-week initiative designed to foster leadership across the Pacific region.

Working closely with supervisors and alongside fellows from over 13 countries, Suzumi took on a variety of tasks including project assistance, administrative logistics, and program evaluation.

Notably, she contributed to pre and post-program data analysis and helped create resources like a sightseeing guide for international delegates – efforts that were warmly received. Looking back at her time with WHO CCNM UTS Suzumi describes it as transformative.

“It is clear that the work they are doing is directly helping the world around them and that is truly inspiring. It has solidified my passion for contributing to global health through meaningful, evidence-based work.”

During her placement, Suzumi strengthened key public health competencies, including data management, analysis, and monitoring and evaluation, with proficient use of Excel to support evidence-based reporting.

She contributed to the drafting of the LINKS Magazine, communicating complex public health insights to diverse audiences, and produced accurate, timely meeting minutes – demonstrating her ability to synthesise information and apply analytical thinking in a fast-paced, health-focused environment.

With new skills and fresh inspiration, Suzumi is now exploring postgraduate opportunities and national-level roles in the health sector.
