Ho Chi Minh City, 9 April 2025.

Today the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) formally launched a new Transnational Education (TNE) initiative with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh (VNU-HCM) to deliver UTS Bachelor’s programs in Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Bringing Australian university education to Vietnam

The event, held on 9 April, was attended by Ms Sarah Hooper (Australian Consul‑General in Ho Chi Minh City), Assoc. Prof. Dr Pham Tran Vu (Vice President of HCMUT), Iain Watt (Deputy Vice‑Chancellor, International, UTS), Leo Mian Liu (Pro Vice‑Chancellor, Global Partnerships, UTS), and Prof. Diep N. Nguyen (Director, Transnational Education, UTS).

This milestone builds on a nearly 20-year partnership and marks a new chapter in delivering world-class Australian university education on Vietnamese soil. HCMUT now become the first institution outside Australia to offer full UTS Bachelor’s degrees in IT and AI, with teaching staff and curriculum provided and accredited by UTS. “Vietnamese students will have access to a world class program without having to study abroad. The admission process and output standards will be managed by UTS,” said Assoc. Prof. Pham Tran Vu, HCMUT Vice President.

Each program (Bachelor of IT and Bachelor of AI) will accept up to 100 students per cohort annually.

UTS Vice President Mr Iain Watt and HCMUT Vice President Prof Pham Tran Vu signed the agreement at the launch, witnessed by the Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, UTS and HCMUT delegates.
