As a ‘new entry’ UTS Business School has ranked in the top 10 MBA programs in Oceania – at number eight – and in the top 150 globally in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global MBA Rankings for 2021.

The QS Global MBA Rankings is designed to highlight the best MBA programs across the world. Globally, the full-time MBA at Stanford University ranked first, with the Wharton School second and the MIT Sloan School of Management third.

Four UTS postgraduate Masters Programs were also included in the QS business masters rankings: The Master of Strategic Supply Chain Management (Global rank 25),  Master of Marketing (Global rank 51), the Master of Finance (Global rank 71), and the Master of Management (Global rank 81).

The core metrics used in the QS ranking for business school MBAs are employability, entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, return on investment, thought leadership, and class and faculty diversity.

The rankings ask more than 60,000 employers and academics for their view on the reputation and thought leadership of specific business schools, as well as using a number of data points to determine return on investment for students.

My name is Hussain Rammal. I'm the Director of the Master of Business Administration programme at UTS Business School.

The UTS MBA fills the needs of the industry. Businesses are seeking talent who have a broad understanding of basic business functions, but also have the ability to strategise and make decisions that can give their organisations a competitive advantage.

The UTS MBA is flexible. It provides you with the broad general knowledge that you need about business activities. This provides the base knowledge for students to learn about how business is done in its current form, but also in the future. It also provides you the opportunity to specialise in areas, and that can be a career transition point, or it could be something that can help you with career progression.

It is a two-year full-time programme, but it can be completed in four years for those professionals who are working full-time.

Another good thing about the programme is the cohort experience you get in the classroom is very unique. Not only do you get students from different educational backgrounds, different professional backgrounds, but also different countries, and that allows learning outside of just the classroom.

In the classroom, we provide different opportunities for learning. We have evening classes because the MBA is, of course, targeted for professionals, but we also provide options on weekends in our block classes. That again takes into consideration the fact that a lot of MBA students are working full-time. So what you learn, you apply straightaway.

The UTS Business School is located right in the middle of the Sydney CBD, and that means we are engaging with business on a daily basis. We are engaged with large multinationals, domestic firms, and even small family-owned businesses.

That, for students, means that all the activities they undertake, the assessment tasks they do, are all practical and related to what you would need to do in business in the future.

The UTS MBA program is a two-year MBA featuring six core subjects that introduce students to key managerial and business concepts, and ten electives that allow students to tailor their curriculum.

The program is designed for early-career professionals seeking to either extend their knowledge and capabilities into managerial roles or to change careers into a new field of business.

Other UTS MBA options include the new Advanced MBA, a one-year agile program, embedded with industry; the Executive MBA, designed for busy, ambitious and experienced managers, and the MBA in Entrepreneurship, for students keen to get their business ideas market-ready.

All MBA subjects are approved by an industry board that insists on 'relevance to workplace' as a pre-eminent subject design principle.

The QS rankings are regarded as one of the pioneers in university rankings. Established in 1990 they produce the QS World University Rankings and related regional and national rankings each year.

UTS ranked 9th in Australia at 133 (up from 140) in the QS World University Rankings 2021. UTS also ranked 11th in the world and 1st in Australia in the QS Top 50 under 50 in the QS GLOBAL index of newer universities – those less than 50 years old.
