Why the Executive MBA?
The refreshed Executive MBA builds on a foundation of more than 15 years to offer a program that not only shapes aptitude but also character.
The UTS Executive MBA produces knowledgeable graduates who can use research insights to transform organisations. It also builds confident, courageous and ethical executives who can respond to global challenges and lead sustainable economic development.
The new program retains the personalised, small-cohort approach that’s been our hallmark, while delving even deeper into the ‘whole’ leader – the executive who can lead with integrity, making decisions not only in the best interests of the company, its people and customers, but also working for the economy and society, with both the short and long term in mind.
I'm Melissa Edwards. I'm the director of the Executive MBA programme here at UTS. The Executive MBA is designed for aspiring leaders, people who have the technical expertise, but need to take that next career move. We want to shape and mould people who can create strategies, brave decisions, leaders of the future. So if you have ambition and you're ready to make that next career move, there are two ways that you can come into the programme. If you've got a degree already, then you can come straight into the Executive MBA. If you've got more than eight years experience in a managerial position, then you can come in buy the certificate programme.
One of the real features of this programme is people coming together. It's situated learning. You come into a small cohort of people who are just like you, professionals. Everybody learns from each other. That's peer to peer learning and in the mix we throw talented academics along with industry experts where you're working on real problems, so you can take what you learn in the classroom and apply it straightaway in your organisation the next day. That's the real feature of this course.
We know you've got career, family, life, but there's still work to be done and we want to make sure that you get the best from this experience. So what we're doing is creating a flexible learning mode where you come along, you will be here no more than one night per week, and maybe one to two Saturdays in a month. But we've also got a learning environment where there'll be support materials that you can have to support that in-class experience. That's because we want to make those in-class experiences experiential. That means that you'll be actively engaged in discussions so that you're using that information and knowledge to your best advantage, and that's a personalised approach.
