Undergraduate FAQs

Applying for an undergraduate course at UTS usually involves four main steps:

1. Choose your course and check the entry requirements
   Visit the course page to confirm the required ATAR or Selection Rank, subject prerequisites and any additional requirements such as a portfolio, audition or interview.
2. Check your eligibility or pathway options
   If you don’t meet the standard entry requirements, you may still be eligible through adjustment factors, alternative qualifications, or pathway programs.
3. Submit your application
   Most domestic undergraduate applicants apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). You’ll need to include your course preferences and any required supporting documents.
4. Respond to your offer
   If you receive an offer, follow the instructions in your offer letter to accept, defer or decline your place before the deadline.

Entry requirements and application processes can vary by course, so it’s important to check the specific course page before applying.

If you miss a UAC deadline, you may still be able to apply during late rounds depending on course availability. Highly competitive courses may close once places are filled. Always check the latest dates on the UAC website.

University of Technology Sydney offers mid-year (Spring/July) intakes for selected undergraduate courses.

Not all degrees are available in Spring, as availability depends on course structure and places offered.

Check the course page or the UAC course listings for the relevant intake.

If you’re not applying directly from high school, you can still apply for an undergraduate course through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) as a non-school-leaver.

Non-school-leaver applicants may include students who:

• previously studied at another university or college
• completed TAFE or VET qualifications
• took a gap year after finishing school
• have relevant work or professional experience
• are returning to study to upskill or change careers

When applying through UAC, you’ll list your course preferences and submit details of your previous study or qualifications. UTS will then consider your application based on the information provided and the entry requirements for your chosen course. It's important to list all your previous studies including any incomplete studies as they assist your application.

You may also meet UTS’s minimum matriculation requirement if you are 20 years or older on 1 March of your intake year.

Most domestic undergraduate applicants must apply through UAC.
However, some pathway and access programs require direct application to UTS, including:

• UniReady
• UTS College Pathway

Always check the application instructions on your course page to confirm whether a direct application is required.

You can accept your offer by following the instructions in your offer letter. This typically involves logging in to MyStudentAdmin or the UTS Student Portal, reviewing any conditions, submitting required documents and – if applicable – paying any fees.

Once you accept your offer, you’ll move into the “Getting Started” stage, enrolling in subjects, setting up your student accounts and preparing for orientation.

You may be able to defer your offer to a later session, depending on your course. To request a deferral:

• Log in to MyStudentAdmin
• Select the Defer Offer option (if available)
• Submit your request before the acceptance deadline

Some courses do not allow deferral.

You can view your acceptance deadline on MyStudentAdmin. If you do not accept by that date, your offer will lapse and be reallocated. Log in to MyStudentAdmin to accept before the listed deadline.

If you don't receive an offer in the first round, you should review your preferences and preference alternative courses that interest you. You can also keep your most preferred course preferenced on your UAC application as you can still be considered for the course.

Yes you can! If you have accepted another offer at UTS, you can proceed to with accepting another offer here at UTS. Once you've decided which course you would like to study, it's important that you submit a course withdrawal for your other courses otherwise you will be financially liable for your other enrolments.

Each course at UTS has a minimum Selection Rank, which includes your ATAR plus any applicable adjustment factors. Indicative Selection Ranks vary by course and can change from year to year. Check your course page or UAC listings for details.

UTS courses do not have any prerequisites as part of it's admissions requirements. However, applicants are expected to have assumed knowledge based on the course they've seleted.

UTS accepts a wide range of international secondary qualifications, including A‑Levels, IB, French Baccalaureate, US high school diploma, Singapore A‑Levels and others. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalency and eligibility.

You may need to provide evidence of English proficiency. UTS accepts:

• IELTS Academic
• TOEFL iBT
• PTE Academic
• Cambridge English qualifications

Minimum scores vary by course, so always check the requirements for your specific program.

HECS‑HELP is an Australian Government loan that allows eligible Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) students to defer their student contribution amounts.

If you use HECS‑HELP:

• The Government pays your student contribution to the university; and
• You repay the loan through the tax system once your income exceeds the repayment threshold.

To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a CSP, meet citizenship or residency requirements, and submit a valid Request for Commonwealth Assistance form (with your TFN) by the census date.

The loan is income‑contingent, has no interest (but is indexed annually), and only applies to student contribution amounts.

A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) means the Australian Government pays part of the cost of your study, and you pay the remaining amount as a student contribution.

In a CSP:

• You are charged a student contribution amount per subject, rather than full tuition fees.
• The amount you pay depends on the subject area (funding cluster), with maximum rates set by the government; and
• You may be able to defer your student contribution through HECS‑HELP if you are eligible.

Your total cost depends on the subjects you enrol in and how many you take each session. CSP availability is limited and depends on your course and eligibility.

You do not pay HECS‑HELP upfront.

You start repaying your HECS‑HELP debt only when your income exceeds the minimum repayment threshold set by the Australian Government. Repayments are made automatically through the tax system as a percentage of your income.

If your income is below the threshold, no repayments are required.

You can also make voluntary repayments at any time if you wish.

 You can check your eligibility for HECS‑HELP by confirming that you meet all of the following:

• You are enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)
• You are an Australian citizen, a permanent humanitarian visa holder, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
• You have a valid Tax File Number (TFN)
• You submit a Request for Commonwealth Assistance form on or before the census date
