• What is Quantum Technology?

  Quantum technology applies the principles of quantum mechanics — which is the study of very small particles — to build real-world tools and systems.

  In the near term, this includes ultra-secure communications, highly sensitive navigation and timing sensors, and precision measurement tools that can detect tiny changes in magnetic fields, gravity, or the chemical composition of materials. These technologies are already driving breakthroughs in medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, defence, and advanced manufacturing.

  Looking further ahead, researchers are working toward quantum computers and quantum networks that could help design new materials and medicines, solve complex optimisation problems, and connect powerful quantum devices in entirely new ways. It is an exciting field that blends deep science with the opportunity to reshape how we measure, communicate, and compute — and we are only just getting started.

• What ATAR or entry requirements do I need to achieve to get into the Bachelor of Advanced Science course in Quantum Technology at UTS?

  Entry is based on your selection rank, which can include ATAR, adjustment points, or other recognised pathways. Students without an ATAR can visit the Admissions Pathways website for more information. 
  
  

• What subjects should I study in Year 11 and Year 12 to study Physics and Quantum Technology?

  We recommend Mathematics Advanced (or Extension) and at least one Science subject, such as Physics or Chemistry. These provide a strong foundation for first-year subjects. If you haven't studied them, UTS offers bridging courses before session starts. 

• Are there any bridging courses for students who haven't studied enough Science subjects at school?

  Yes, UTS offers short bridging courses in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for students who need to refresh or build core knowledge before starting university. These are normally held in January and July. Explore UTS bridging courses. 

• Can I transfer from another university or TAFE in to a UTS Physics & Quantum Technology course and will I receive credits for my previous studies?

  Yes, you can apply to UTS from another institution, and once admitted, apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) for subjects already completed. Provide official transcripts and subject outlines with your application so UTS can assess your eligibility. Learn about recognition of prior learning.

  Studying Physics and Quantum Technology at UTS provides a solid foundation of technical expertise to support career longevity in a shifting job market.
