Learn the laws that govern our universe

Our world and everything in it are created by two things alone: matter and energy. Physicists work to study these elements, and those they create, to better understand our universe and our place within it.

At UTS, our Physics and Quantum Technologies courses will see you examine fundamental phenomena, forces and particles, with an emphasis on materials and fabrication. Plus, with the opportunity to pursue exciting sub-majors, you’ll graduate ready to develop transformational theories and technologies that could change the way we live.

Why study Physics and Quantum Technologies?

Study the fundamental phenomena, forces and particles that make up the universe. With an emphasis on materials and fabrication, our Physics courses will prepare you to develop transformational theories and technologies that could change the way we live.

You can combine specialist study in quantum and computational physics, advanced materials and more with a sub-major in Chemistry, Engineering or Maths.

The Quantum Technologies major is a carefully chosen cohort benefitting from highly personalised learning opportunities, face time with both research and teaching staff and hands-on experience with quantum devices and optical systems.

Get inspired

Just like the secrets of the universe, your career options will be vast — work as a physicist, materials or nanofabrication engineer or a data or research scientist, among others.

What we teach is fundamental problem solving skills and also technical skills, so students can be highly competent in building their own equipment, interfacing that equipment with advanced computers and actually doing the data analysis.
