Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Stella decided to pursue a Master of Information Technology specialising in Software Development at UTS.

Learning by doing
Stella prepared for her future career as a Business Analyst at LG Electronics Australia through projects that simulated real-world, industry scenarios.
“Through the Enterprise Architecture Practice subject, I gained a high-level understanding of ERP systems and how technology aligns with organisational strategy. This helped me shift from focusing solely on isolated technical tasks to viewing systems from a broad architectural perspective. This mindset has proven essential in my current role as a Business Analyst, where having an end-to-end understanding of enterprise operations is crucial, especially when supporting an entire business unit within a global company like LG Electronics.”
Just like in a corporate environment, Stella worked in group projects with peers from diverse cultural, technical, and professional backgrounds.
Those experiences taught me adaptability and strengthened my communication and collaboration skills. Today, I work with stakeholders from across departments, functions, and time zones. Having that foundation in soft skills is just as critical as having technical expertise.
Lucy Mentoring Program
Stella participated in the Lucy Mentoring Program to connect with women mentors and learn the ins and outs of working in the IT industry.
“I was incredibly fortunate to be mentored through the Lucy Mentoring Program by a Product Lead at Woolworths Group, who is also a UTS alum. We met every two weeks, sometimes virtually and sometimes in person, and she supported me through every stage of my professional development. She helped refine my resume, ran mock interviews with me, and even coached me through live networking events when I was nervous.”
Mentoring combined with Stella’s projects gave her the practical, industry experience and confidence that helped her stand out amongst other candidates when it came to applying to and interviewing for jobs after graduation.
During my Master’s, I participated in a major industry project that involved not just proposing a technical solution but also building a structured change management plan to implement it successfully.
“I discussed this experience confidently in my interview, and it became a key differentiator. My managers specifically asked about my ability to manage organisational change, and I was able to explain how I had already developed and executed a real change plan during university. That hands-on experience, even in an academic setting, has translated directly into my work now.”
Today, Stella is a Business Analyst at LG Electronics Australia in Sydney. Her job duties include collaborating with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, gathering business requirements, and leading digital transformation initiatives. Her role bridges the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring the delivery of impactful and scalable outcomes.
Advice for future students
In offering advice to future international students, Stella recommends,
“Be proactive, patient, and prepared. Take initiative—seek feedback, build your network, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Rejections will happen, but every ‘no’ brings you closer to a ‘yes’ if you keep learning and growing. Make the most of university support services and step out of your comfort zone. Success is not just about talent—it’s about resilience and the willingness to keep showing up.”
