Easy to get to, easy to settle in

Before starting at UTS, I visited campuses at other universities to see what uni life might be like. And after one semester studying Business at UTS, I can confidently say – I’m so glad I chose UTS. Here’s why.

Support systems that actually help

As a first-year, I didn’t expect the level of support I received. UTS has:

  • HELPS and UPASS programs: Free weekly sessions where tutors break down the hard stuff.
  • Drop-in sessions: Every professor in my business subjects made these available early in the semester – a total lifesaver before finals.
  • Science and math support rooms: Even if you're not studying STEM, this shows how accessible help is across the uni.

And when I emailed my professors with questions? They replied. Promptly.

The long break I didn’t know I needed

Right now, I’m on a 1.5 to 2 month semester break. I feel genuinely rested – and ready to go again.

The silent reading room (aka my personal productivity hack)

Shoutout to whoever invented the silent reading room in Building 2. It’s the quietest space I’ve ever been in. Footsteps sound like thunder. The focus is intense. Even my friends from other unis come here to study because it’s that effective.

Small things that make a big difference

Here are some underrated perks I’ve appreciated:

  • Microwaves in almost every building
  • Hot/cold water taps on every floor
  • Flu shots for students + email reminders
  • $5.50 healthy meals at Terrace Café for students
  • Booking rooms with soundproof walls for group study
  • Vending machines with actual real food
  • Clear orientation day that sets you up for success
  • AI-invigilated exams explained step-by-step
  • Chairs and desks across campus – not just in the library.

The people

My classmates? Motivated, friendly and collaborative. If you choose your group wisely, you’ll find people who push you to do better. Everyone’s here to learn, and it shows.

The only downside?

Late-night classes (7–9pm) can be rough – but that’s on you if you miss the timetable deadline. Lesson learnt.

Final thoughts

UTS is the kind of university that gives back as much as you put in. If you ask for help, you'll get it – and more.

I came in with no expectations, just weeks of research. After one semester, I’m genuinely impressed. The campus is clean, the support is real, the learning is practical, and the people are great.

If you’re considering studying Business or any course at UTS – do it. It’s a university built for students.
