Discover how Hang Wang’s Bachelor of Business at UTS laid the groundwork for his ambitious goal of pursuing a PhD and returning as a lecturer.

Hang began his academic journey with a Diploma of Business at UTS College. This foundational course paved the way for his subsequent studies in the Bachelor of Business at UTS, where he pursued an extended finance major and a sub-major in economics.

“I like finance, and my aim is to do a PhD, so I’m more focused on the theoretical things. Economics and finance are closely related. Many models in finance are actually from economics.”

Practical and industry-related coursework

Hang found the coursework at UTS to be closely related to the industry. Assignments were practical and connected to real-world scenarios, providing valuable skills to solve actual problems. This high-quality training prepared him to face any challenge after graduation.

“The assignments connect to the real world – it’s not like you’re just reading a textbook and doing an exam. You learn skills to solve real problems.”

A supportive learning environment

UTS offers extensive support for international students through various workshops in writing and speaking, which help with assignments, grammar, and IELTS tests.

Hang valued the workshops offered by the library and the international internship opportunities regularly communicated via email. He also received invaluable support from professors, especially Associate Professor Jianxin Wang, who helped build his confidence and research skills.

Future aspirations

Hang aims to publish his research and hopes to return to UTS as a lecturer, continuing to contribute to the academic community that has supported his growth. He encourages students to pursue honours, highlighting that it offers a different experience from an undergraduate degree and helps develop unique skills.

Hang’s story is a testament to the comprehensive and practical education provided by UTS, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields. His dedication and proactive approach to learning have set a solid foundation for his future aspirations in finance and academia.
