Peer Networker guiding students on a campus tour.

Eligibility

We’re looking for current UTS students of good standing within the UTS community who have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A professional attitude
  • Leadership potential
  • A willingness to work in a team environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong initiative
  • The ability to be a good role model

You are eligible to join the Peer Network if:

  • You apply when you have at least two sessions of your studies left to complete at UTS (not including the session you apply in).

Please remember that to qualify for a Vice Chancellor's recommendation you need to complete two Orientations.

You are not eligible to join the Peer Network if you are:

  • In your first session at UTS
  • In your final two sessions at UTS at the time of application

The Peer Network aims to be inclusive of students from all backgrounds; we are used to providing flexibility so that students with varying levels of ability are welcome to apply. If this is the case, please indicate so in your application so appropriate preparations can be made.

Expectations

Becoming a Peer Networker has a number of benefits but also comes with several expectations. We expect commitment, communication and reliability from our Peer Networkers in order to qualify for the full range of benefits.

Please make sure our commitments do not clash with your academic commitments.

We have a significant responsibility to orientate and welcome new students to UTS, so it’s vital that all Peer Networkers are sufficiently prepared and trained to undertake this responsibility.

Training

Before participating in Orientation, all Peer Networkers receive two full days of training. It's not only a great way to meet other Peer Networkers, but we also aim to equip you with the foundation of skills needed to excel both at Orientation and in your future career.

The first day of training is for new Peer Networkers only; the second is operationally focused and is for both new and existing Peer Networkers.

Peer Networkers only participate in Training Day 1 once during their Peer Networking career. The second day is completed in its entirety once and then only in part for each subsequent Orientation you participate in.

Orientation participation

We ask that every Peer Networker participate in two Orientation programs. These don't have to be consecutive, but will need to be completed in order to receive formal benefits. More about this will be explained in your interview and at Training Day 1.

Orientation occurs twice a year, the first for two weeks at the beginning of Autumn Session, and for one week before classes begin in Spring Session.

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
