Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science or Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Management are required to undertake work integrated learning subjects in their final year of study as per the following plan.
Options for the ESSA accredited pathway (BSES with Exercise Science or Exercise Therapy major)
Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science students majoring in Exercise Science or Exercise Therapy will typically enrol in 92554 Exercise Assessment, Prescription and Delivery for Autumn and 92550 Sport and Exercise Science Practicum for Spring.
However, students may elect to undertake an alternate program where 92550 Sport and Exercise Science Practicum is taken over Summer at the end of second year, and 92554 Exercise Assessment, Prescription and Delivery is taken in Spring of the final year.
Undertaking 92550 over summer presents opportunities aligned with summer months, including pre-season training for many of the winter sports. However, students must be available to attend the compulsory workshop that is usually offered during the mid-session break in Spring of year 2, AND agree to undertake 92554 Exercise Assessment, Prescription and Delivery in Spring of year 3.
The following tables summarises the two options:
| Standard Option (Autumn/Spring) | |
| Year 3 Autumn | 92554 Exercise Assessment, Prescription and Delivery |
| Year 3 Spring | 92550 Sport and Exercise Science Practicum |
| Alternate Option (Summer/Spring) | |
| Year 2 Summer | 92550 Sport and Exercise Science Practicum |
| Year 3 Spring | 92554 Exercise Assessment, Prescription and Delivery |
Please note:
- Students should refer to the Handbook for subject requisites
- Students must be available to attend the compulsory Workshops
- Students completing 92550 in Year 2 Summer MUST undertake 92554 during Spring of the following year or later. To be clear, students are not eligible to complete 92554 in Autumn if they have enrolled in 92550 during Summer of the previous session
Options for BSEM and BSES with the non-ESSA pathway (Flexible major)
Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science students in the Flexible Major and students in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Management degree can enrol in 92551 Sport and Exercise Internship in Spring of their second year (as a fifth subject) or Autumn of their final year of study.
Undertaking 92551 Sport and Exercise Internship in the second year of study presents opportunities aligned with Spring and Summer months and may alleviate time pressures related to post graduate study application deadlines and graduation.
If you are considering Global Exchange (available in Year 3 Autumn), 92551 Sport and Exercise Internship can be deferred to Spring of your final year and substituted with an elective to be used for Global Exchange. Please note that you cannot undertake Internship overseas, so this must be either completed in Spring Year 2 or Spring Year 3. Due to external accreditation requirements with ESSA, students undertaking the Exercise Science or Exercise Therapy major are ineligible for Global Exchange. See details about global opportunities.
The following tables summarises the two options:
| Standard Option (Autumn) | |
| Year 3 Autumn | 92551 Sport and Exercise Internship |
| Alternate Option (Spring Yr 2 or 3) | |
| Year 2 or 3 Spring | 92551 Sport and Exercise Internship |
Please note:
- Students interested in Global Exchange must choose one of the Alternate Options above
- Students choosing to undertake 92551 as a 5th subject must apply via e-request. The Student Centre will determine if students have met the academic progression requirements
