Undergraduate progression rules

Undergraduate students who do not maintain the required minimum level of progress may be excluded from a course and have their enrolment withdrawn. The minimum rate of progress is achievement of 50 per cent of the credit points in which a student has been enrolled since the beginning of that course. In addition, students are bound by the UTS Rules and are advised to refer to them.

Postgraduate progression rules

Postgraduate information technology students may be excluded from further study at the University if they meet the following criteria:

  • have attempted a minimum of 18cp in their course
  • fail more than 50 per cent of the total number of enrolled credit points from the commencement of the course
  • Postgraduate information technology students may also be excluded from a course if they exceed the maximum time allowed for completion of that course (see rule 10.5).
  • On courses awarded with a 'Level of Award' (eg. 'with Distinction' or 'with First Class Honours'), the WAM used to calculate the Level of Award may differ from the WAM found on your UTS transcript.

Levels of Award

All graded subjects from the FEIT core and FEIT major (or equivalent component of a course) are included. This Includes ‘Grade no Marks’ subjects, subjects credited from a different UTS course and previous failed attempts of eligible subjects after transferring between FEIT owned degrees.

Ungraded pass/fail subjects, any subjects that are not part of your FEIT Core or Major (e.g. elective choice, or subjects in a combined degree that are from a different faculty’s Core, Electives, Stream or Major etc.) and subjects credited from other institutions are not included in the calculation.

A WAM Calculation is done by:

  1. multiplying the mark attained in a subject by the subject's credit-point value
  2. repeating step 1 for each subject attempted in the course (including any fails), then adding these figures together, and
  3. dividing the total calculated in step 2 by the number of credit points attempted in the course.

  • A WAM greater than 85
  • No previous misconduct

Potential shortlisted recipients are benchmarked against the WAM of the previous 2 years of FEIT’s University Medal recipients to determine further eligibility.
