What is a microcredential?

For those seeking specialist knowledge at a university level, a UTS microcredential offers advanced, industry specific units that have the same academic rigour as a postgraduate degree. The smallest form of awarded study on offer, they earn students credit point recognition that can count towards other postgraduate study.

Our microcredentials can help you gain a competitive edge when you’re going for your next job or promotion. These top tier UTS Open courses are designed to give you specialised knowledge you can only get at a university level. Microcredentials align with specific UTS postgraduate degree subjects, so when you complete one you meet the subject’s assessment requirements and learning outcomes. You’ll be challenged with the same standard of study as our postgraduate courses, working through practical, industry-relevant and forward-thinking coursework delivered by UTS academics and industry experts.

Our range of study modes give you options that can work with your schedule, with courses available on-campus, online or a blend of the two  — so you can upskill with flexibility and keep your career on track.

Microcredential, macro application

As an educator and English language teacher, Ann-Charlotte Stent was interested in learning more about learner-centred course design with a focus on the online environment. She enrolled in two UTS microcredentials, Predict: Current and Future Trends in e-Learning and Design: Designing for Learning  as a ‘taster’ for a full Graduate Certificate. Because the content was so relevant, Anne-Charlotte could put her new skills to use immediately. She also liked the flexibility aspect, so she could attend lectures as needed and access coursework online when and where it was convenient.

I like how the courses connect theory with practice. Theory is of course essential, but being able to apply it in context is equally important and the courses balance the two perfectly.

Our microcredientials offer a range of study areas including:

  • Analytics & Data Science
  • Architecture
  • Bridging Courses
  • Built Environment
  • Business & Transformation
  • Communication & Media
  • Design Innovation
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Health
  • Law
  • Public Policy & Governance
  • Science & Mathematics
  • Systems & Operations
  • Technology
