Stay with UTS Housing and become part of a diverse and vibrant local community, one that can support and motivate you in your academic, social and personal growth.

Applications for the Spring 2025 intake will open on Wednesday, 7 May at 10am AEST onwards (not before).

Apply for UTS Housing

Rooms are limited; once all our rooms have been allocated for that intake, you will still be apply but will go onto a waiting list. Please note that there's a $50 non-refundable application fee should you still want to apply for that session.

 Before applying:

  • Notice for Spring 2025 UTS Housing Applicants
Please note that construction works on the Goods Line, near UTS Building 6 and the Goods Line's ramp, is scheduled to start in late June 2025 and finish end of the year. Noise disruptions are expected during daytime hours. Please consider this when planning your accommodation.
  • View the Yura Mudang (UTS student residence) page and take a virtual tour of the residence and its different room types
  • Check out the rates
  • Ensure you meet the selection guidelines (below) and have sufficient funds.
If you have financial difficulties, reach out to the UTS Financial Assistance Service for financial support options.
  • View our Frequently Asked Questions page
Please note that:
  • To be eligible for UTS accommodation, you must be enrolled or intend to enrol (over 6 credit points) as a UTS student (excludes UTS College) doing either an undergraduate, a postgraduate or research degree for the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application;
  • UTS student bedrooms and studios are for one person only;
  • We do not cater for couples or family accommodation.
  • Residents can stay at UTS Housing for up to 3 years.

How to apply

  1. You must intend to enrol or be enrolled for the session you are applying for.
  2. Have a look at the different room types and fees associated. Once you’ve found something that suits your style and budget, you can complete the online application.
  3. View our applications' FAQs to get answers to questions you may have.
  4. Complete your application via the UTS Housing Starrez portal and pay the $50 non-refundable application fee (note: completing an application doesn't guarantee you a room).
If you have any issues accessing the online application form, please contact the UTS Housing Service office. Once you’ve completed the online application, it will be reviewed by the UTS Housing Admissions Officer.
  5.  If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter that you will need to respond to within the period specified in the letter. If you do not respond to the offer then we will assume that you no longer want the accommodation and it will be re-allocated.
  6. You will then need to complete the online induction and pay the acceptance fee ($150) and your bond (equivalent of 4 weeks of your rent).

Selection guidelines

To ensure that room allocations are equal and fair, we follow a set of selection criteria as guidelines when allocating places to new applicants. Please ensure you provide us with clear information in relation to any issues requiring special consideration.

To be eligible for UTS accommodation, you must to enrolled or intend to enrol (over 6 credit points) as a UTS student (excludes UTS College) doing either an undergraduate, a postgraduate or research degree for the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application. Failure to enrol by the UTS Census date or withdrawing may result in the cancellation of your Licence Agreement and a cancellation fee may apply.

If you are enrolled as above, the following selection guidelines are taken into account when reviewing your application:

  • previous academic achievement
  • year of study/faculty/program
  • gender balance
  • geographic origin
  • track record or interest in contributing positively to residential life
  • enrolment status
  • preference may be given to students applying for UTS residences for the first time

Special consideration may be given to applicants who have:

  • limited financial means*
  • a relevant disability where the need for UTS accommodation can be linked to learning needs
  • gained admission to UTS via a special admissions scheme (e.g. inpUTS, Jumbunna) or via an AusAID Scholarship

* Set criteria are used by UTS to assess whether a student is experiencing financial hardship and is eligible for financial assistance. For more general information, please contact the financial assistance service.

Application fee for new applicants

Applications from new applicants must be accompanied by an AUD $50.00 application fee. This is an administrative cost for reviewing and assessing applications.

This fee is non-refundable. No refunds will be paid to applicants who cancel their application, or whose application for accommodation at UTS is unsuccessful.

Resident re-applications

Current residents who want to continue living in UTS Housing are required to complete their re-application via the UTS Housing portal before the re-application deadline. There is a $50 re-application fee.

The following considerations apply when reviewing your reapplication:

  • you must have completed the UTS Consent Matters training (either via a previous UTS Housing application or via a UTS communication—you do not have to re-do the training if you have already completed it once)
  • involvement in the UTS Housing community and activities
  • overall length of stay in UTS Housing residences
  • history of residence, including academic progress, financial payments and disciplinary records
  • special needs or extenuating circumstances
  • students should still be enrolled as a UTS student during the relevant accommodation period being sought in the application

For any other UTS Housing enquiries, please:

  • View our Frequently Asked Questions page
  • Chat with UTS Housing staff online (Mon-Fri, 10am to 3pm AEDT)
  • Contact housing.service@uts.edu.au for any other questions
