Meaningful consultation on health and safety issues can lead to fewer workplace injuries and gives everyone the opportunity to participate in keeping the environment we work in safe.

To achieve this, UTS will:

  • Seek, value and incorporate staff and student opinions into the decision making processes impacting on health and safety.
  • Encourage staff and students to identify and report all Health and Safety issues and concerns to management.
  • Recognise that dialogue between staff/students and supervisor is the most appropriate place to implement Health and Safety solutions.
  • Implement a system of Health Safety and Wellbeing Working Groups (UTS Staff access only) at the business unit/ faculty and University level.
  • Maintain a Health Safety and Wellbeing Advisory Committee (UTS Staff access only) to act as a communication and consultation channel between staff and senior management on HSW matters.
  • Consult with staff, students and others in relation to:
    • risk management activities;
    • proposing changes that may affect workers,
    • making decisions about any health and safety procedures, and
    • the adequacy of facilities for the welfare of workers
  • Ensure information relating to Health and Safety is provided to staff, students, service providers and others who may be affected by Health and Safety issues whilst at UTS.

The legislative requirements for consultation on health and safety issues are outlined in the work health and safety legislation, and SafeWork Australia's Work health and safety consultation, cooperation and coordination: code of practice (Pdf  734 KB)

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand.
