Step into the future with spaces designed for impact.

At UTS, research in Engineering and IT is focused on solving real problems and creating change that matters. Our world‑leading research facilities are central to this work. Purpose‑built spaces such as ProtoSpace, Rapido, Marintec, the Cybersecurity Precinct, data visualisation environments and specialised robotics labs give teams the tools and support they need to move from ideas to tested solutions. These facilities are designed for collaboration and are open to researchers, students, industry, and government partners working together on complex, multidisciplinary challenges.

Purpose-built facilities for industry engagement.

Robotics lab

Defence and Space Robotics Laboratories

Innovation in robotics isn’t just about technology; it’s about solving real-world challenges. We host dynamic spaces where ideas move from concept to application, providing spaces for robotics innovation. We bridge the gap between research and practical deployment, offering opportunities to prototype, test and refine technologies that shape the future

Research and Development facilities

UTS and Cisco have formed a partnership which will allow UTS to join Cisco’s National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN). Innovation Central Sydney (ICS) forms a key initiative of the partnership and UTS will establish and host ICS at the Broadway campus, which will be the only NSW based Innovation Central in the NIIN.

Partner with Marintec, a joint research institute by Navantia Australia and UTS focused on digital innovation for maritime. Advance AI, machine learning, and automation to drive the next generation of marine technology.

UTS Rapido is a fast-paced innovation hub connecting industry and academia to deliver high-impact engineering, software and UX solutions. Bridging capability gaps and drive innovation across multiple industry sectors.

Our facility supports advanced research in radio frequency systems, wireless communications and antenna development. Researchers, industry and government design, test and validate communication technologies in controlled, specialist conditions; enabling projects ranging from emerging network infrastructure to defence and critical systems.

Bringing together specialists in digital systems, artificial intelligence, information management, and socio‑technical research, we support multidisciplinary projects that explore how digital technologies shape organisations and society, and translate insights into practical applications for business and government.

Designed for collaborative projects across academia, industry and clinical partners. We provide researchers with tools to explore biological processes at single‑cell resolution. Combining specialised instruments with expert support, the space enables high‑precision analysis to inform breakthroughs in health, biotechnology and personalised medicine.

The INSYS Lab supports cutting‑edge research in nanotechnology, microfabrication, and materials engineering. It is equipped for high‑precision experimentation; it enables teams to design and test nanoscale devices and materials with applications across electronics, health, environmental monitoring and advanced manufacturing.

PILAB brings researchers together to explore imaging systems, visual perception, and computational photography. The lab supports the development and testing of new imaging technologies, helping translate academic research into real‑world applications across creative industries, science and engineering.

The DigiSAS Lab focuses on digital systems, analytics, and simulation, enabling the modeling and optimisation of complex environments. Researchers and partners use the facility to test solutions, evaluate performance, and generate insights that inform decision‑making across sectors such as transport, logistics, health and infrastructure.
