Mr Michael Rose AM

Michael Rose AM became Chancellor of UTS on 1 December 2025.

Michael is an independent director whose work spans several key sectors in Sydney.

He is the Chair of the Committee for Sydney, President of the Art Gallery of NSW, Chair of Greater Sydney Parklands and Chair of Northwest Rapid Transit, the private partner in Sydney’s Metro system.

Michael also chairs the Westmead Institute for Medical Research and is co-chair of Reconciliation Australia.  

Over the last 20 years Michael has worked extensively on policy issues involving First Nations communities and Indigenous rights, employment, education and reconciliation.

In 2016 he served as a member of the Referendum Council on Constitutional Recognition. In the same year he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the legal profession and Indigenous communities.

Michael graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Arts and Laws in 1985. He practised law for 30 years in Australia, the United States and Hong Kong and was a partner at leading Australian law firm Allens for over 20 years, including 8 years as Chief Executive Partner.

Outside Australia, Michael’s board roles have included 6 years as Global Chair of ChildFund Alliance, an international development agency with community-based programs in more than 65 countries. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
