Interested in using some of your electives to study for a short time overseas?
The Faculty of Arts and Social Science offer a number of international intensive elective options to be completed during the Winter or Summer sessions to suit every course. This allows students who have completed at least 24 credit points to complete an elective overseas on an approved short-term international program.

Designed to build your language skills, intercultural competencies and international awareness alongside the professional skills you gain in your degree, adding the Bachelor of Arts in International Studies to your professional degree will allow you to study and travel to a part of the world that you’re passionate about.

As part of the degree, you’ll spend a whole year studying language and culture at one of our partner universities:
Asia: China, Japan
Europe: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland
The Americas: Canada (Quebec), Latino USA, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica
Diploma in Languages, sub-majors and electives
Prepare for a global career by immersing yourself in the study of language and culture before your graduate.
The Diploma in Languages is a concurrent degree that can be taken alongside any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program. Engage with the in-depth study of your chosen culture, and choose from six language options, no matter what level of proficiency you’re at:
- Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish
Additionally, you can also create a sub-major within your course through one of the following combinations (upon approval of your Faculty)
- three contemporary society subjects from an International Studies sub-major (SMJ09034)
- a contemporary society subject and two relevant consecutive language and culture subjects known as Specialist Country Studies Sub-major (SMJ09036)
- three consecutive language and culture subjects known as Language Other Than English (LOTE) Studies Sub-major (SMJ09035)
The Beyond UTS International Leadership Development (BUILD) program is open to all UTS students. The program provides opportunities for you to develop leadership potential and take part in a range of local and international activities.
