The School of Nursing and Midwifery was formally established in 2020. However, the disciplines of nursing and midwifery have been a prominent part of the UTS Faculty of Health for decades.
Welcome to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). It is a privilege to lead a school that stands at the forefront of health education, research, and professional practice—both nationally and globally.
At UTS, we are proud to be ranked among the top nursing and midwifery schools in the world, and one of the highest in Australia for academic reputation. Our programs are designed to prepare graduates who are clinically skilled, research-informed, and ready to lead in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. With state-of-the-art simulation labs, strong clinical partnerships, and a commitment to innovation, our students gain the experience and confidence needed to deliver safe, person-centered care across diverse settings.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is a modern, forward-looking institution blending strong clinical partnerships, rigorous academic training, and research excellence. While its global and national rankings—such as 3rd in Australia and 24th globally in QS (2024) remains highly competitive, they reflect the school’s sustained commitment to excellence, and it’s committed to enhancing health and well-being through world-class research, global connections, and education that inspires compassionate, capable, and socially aware nursing and midwifery professionals. Our research is categorised as ‘well above average’ with an ERA ranking of 5/5.
We are also honoured to host the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Development—Australia’s only such centre in this field. As the global Secretariat for the WHO CC Network, we are deeply engaged in advancing nursing and midwifery leadership, education, and workforce development, particularly across the Pacific and Western Pacific regions. This international focus ensures that our work contributes meaningfully to health equity and workforce capacity in both local and global contexts.
Whether you are a student, academic, partner, or visitor, we welcome you to engage with our vibrant community. Together, we are shaping the future of nursing and midwifery—through education, research, and leadership that matters.
