Genetic Counsellors play a vital role
Genetic Counsellors help people to understand their family history, make informed decisions about genetic and genomic testing, understand the results and adjust to or manage the outcomes and implications.
Recent advances in genetic and genomic testing have enormous potential to guide the management of inherited disease and assist with early diagnosis and targeted treatment, resulting in many new opportunities for genetic counsellors.
The Discipline of Genetic Counselling was launched in 2018. Genetic Counselling is embedded with other allied health disciplines within the Graduate School of Health (GSH), providing exciting opportunities for interprofessional education and research.
Our aim at UTS Genetic Counselling is to build on the evidence base of our young profession through conducting high quality research relevant to all those involved with, or affected by, issues concerning genetics and genomics.
