The UTS Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is a world-class institution, with a reputation for quality and impact. Seven university-level research centres and six schools are renowned for expertise in areas from advanced data analytics and quantum software, to artificial intelligence and water technology.

Our research is innovative, industry-focused, and part of the lively culture at UTS. We focus on practical innovation—pioneering solutions with real-world impact. In 2018 alone, the faculty received funding to support close to 150 research projects, through programs including Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery, ARC Linkage, ARC Future Fellowships, and the National Health and Medical Research Council, along with industry and international projects, totalling over AU$25 million.
Collaborations with other institutions and organisations across academic, industry, government and the community mean that we are delivering research with a positive impact to all members of society. Our applied, collaborative approach to innovation has made us a partner of choice for organisations across a broad range of sectors: transport and infrastructure; energy futures; data visualisation and interaction; health; manufacturing; systems for effective enterprise; communications; and cyber security, to name a few.

In the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject, computer science was ranked in the top 100, while electrical and civil engineering subjects ranked in the top 150. We believe the integration of research and teaching can unlock endless possibilities. In each of our centres and schools, internationally renowned researchers work alongside students and early career researchers to address incredibly complex challenges and provide high-level training. At present, we have over 900 active higher degree research doctoral and masters candidates who are integral to our work.

Our website just scratches the surface of how our Schools, Centres, researchers and Higher Degree Research students contribute to the University’s research excellence. I encourage you to explore our current activities and imagine the possibilities as we work with people like you to advance into the future.

Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation)
