Driving digital transformation together

As part of our vision to be a world-leading university of technology, UTS is deepening its research and education partnerships in Vietnam, one of the world’s most dynamic innovation economies.

Our engagement spans PhD training, research exchange and technology collaboration with leading universities, national laboratories, hi-tech parks and government ministries. Together, we co-create solutions in Industry 4.0, smart cities, smart farming and cybersecurity – shaping a future of sustainable innovation.

UTS experts also deliver specialised courses and workshops in Sydney and Vietnam, engaging government ministries, academics, engineers and industry leaders — including FPT Corporation, Vietnam’s largest IT services company.

Key research projects

UTS is strengthening collaboration between Australia and Vietnam through initiatives that exchange people, ideas and technologies. These projects reflect a shared commitment to solving challenges of global importance.

  • Environmental research and technology:
Partnering with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) to monitor coastal environments and develop water filtration systems for the Red River Delta. The arsenic elimination project won the Australian Government–Google Technology Against Poverty Prize for delivering safe drinking water.

  • Search and rescue innovation:
In collaboration with Le Quy Don Technical University (LQDTU), Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue (VINASARCOM), Ripper Corp (Australia) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, UTS has developed AI-powered UAV software for real-time remote sensing and aerial surveillance technology using UAV and AI-empowered software, in an effort to aid with Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

  • Sustainable water systems:
Through the DFAT-funded project UTS Rapido Vietnam: Industry 4.0 for sustainable water systems we leverage UTS strengths in data engineering and water technology to build a scalable model of technology transfer.
  • Innovation and SME collaboration:
Working with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Saigon Innovation Hub, and VNU Ho Chi Minh University of Technology, UTS connects Australia’s small/medium enterprises (SMEs) with opportunities in Vietnam’s innovative ecosystem  – driving bilateral and collaboration in AI, IoT, environmental engineering and big data.

Partnerships in Vietnam

Our partnership model reflects a shared vision: advancing Vietnam’s position as a global hub for technology and industry. Through research collaboration, education and innovation, we’re building capacity and preparing the next generation of researchers and industry leaders.

Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre

The Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre stands at the forefront of a bold new era in 5G/6G research, cybersecurity, and digital transformation, bringing together the brightest minds from academia, industry, and government. Established through a groundbreaking partnership between Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST)  it reflects a shared commitment to advancing technology and shaping secure, connected futures.

Located at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) in Hanoi, the Centre is a hub for innovation, policy leadership, and next-generation connectivity solutions
