Orb is a modular music creation platform for people with limited to no knowledge of music. It is designed to engage users in an interactive experience where they can select, combine, arrange and play sounds together to create a musical composition. At the core of the design is a sound orb that acts as an interface controller, while also allowing the user to change, manipulate and affect the musical output through tangible movement of the ball.
At its core, Orb is a platform for music creation that speculates on an approach to future human-product interactions. The Orb system is intended to shift the perception of music creation away from traditional forms and towards the idea of tangible interaction with a digital platform through a physical object. This project demonstrates that the future development of digital music devices could benefit from a careful balance between digital technology and analogue, tangible forms.
