Our collaborations achieve real-world research outcomes, and address the big and emerging questions of our time.

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is more than just an educational institution. It’s a flourishing community of students, academics, professional staff, alumni, donors and industry partners – all working towards a bold vision of becoming a world-leading university of technology, producing new generations of global citizens who deliver real benefits to society.

The Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building (DAB) is an innovative, vibrant faculty and an integral part of the UTS vision. Thanks to our distinctive model of collaborative learning, cutting-edge research, and strong focus on industry partnerships and global engagement, DAB students and alumni are able to maximise their creative and professional potential.

Looking to the future, we’re expanding our external partnerships through greater collaboration with alumni, industry, philanthropic donors, government and other institutions. Through these partnerships we combine our expertise and knowledge with that of other experts across a surprising variety of fields, to achieve real-world research outcomes that aim to answer some of the big and emerging questions of our time.

DAB is bursting with activity, so there’s no shortage of opportunities to get involved.

Get involved

Whether you’re a UTS graduate or a supporter of our work, you’re part of something big. The UTS community is a global network of future-focused game changers who value education, innovation and positive impact through a lens which contributes to equity, well-being and sustainability in all the things we do.

Here are some of the ways you can stay connected, get involved or partner with the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building today.

Alumni program / committees

Our faculty has enjoyed a proud history of producing generations of graduates that have made a significant impact in practice and thinking across all spheres of business, government and academia around the world.

The UTS DAB faculty values the life-long relationship with our alumni and we welcome you to reconnect with us and support the next generation of students and graduates.

Connect with the DAB Alumni community

The Faculty values the life-long relationship with our alumni, from those who graduated from our first programs over 30 years ago to those just graduating.

The Faculty is committed to keeping you up-to-date with our news and events across our disciplines and providing career, mentoring and networking opportunities.  We acknowledge the significant and valuable support from our alumni in providing opportunities for the next generation of professionals through mentorship, financial assistance (through donations, scholarships and prizes) and engagement within the classroom in the form of industry case studies and guest lectures.  This industry engagement continues to be a hallmark of the UTS DAB experience for our students, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and makes our alumni highly sought after as future leaders in their fields.

I look forward to meeting with you as we grow Alumni community.

— Taksil Dias, Director Engagement

Scholarships and prizes

DAB, in collaboration with our industry partners and donors, is privileged to award many scholarships and prizes to our students each year. We believe in rewarding achievement and recognising motivation to succeed whilst being equally committed to providing support to students experiencing financial hardship and/or other educational barriers.

By offering scholarships to these deserving students, you can share in our passion for education, equity and innovation. In addition to the financial benefit, many scholarships also offer paid work placements and mentoring opportunities to enhance the learning experience. We proudly acknowledge the generosity of our supporters and donors, honouring their shared belief in the power of education and research.

Mentoring

We offer a number of mentoring and networking opportunities to help students, staff, alumni and industry partners make meaningful connections. We’re always excited to have industry professionals and alumni take on an advisory or mentor role to support the development of our current students.

The value of mentoring can be seen in a multiplicity of forms for both the mentor and mentee – such as building leadership development, sparking networking opportunities with highly motivated and talented individuals, offering exchanges of creative and innovative ideas, giving back to the community, increased staff retention and positive work environment.

Guest lectures

Every day, staff at the university make an impact on students, alumni, workers, businesses, and government at the national and international level. We aim to deliver value to society, and we invite you to be part of this collaborative journey.

The faculty is always on the lookout for individuals and organisations who are ready to contribute to our mission as a public good institution.

If you’d like to share your experience and wisdom with the next generation of student learners, you can join our academics in the classroom as a guest lecturer, and so providing insights based on your practical industry/work experience, and helping students grasp the relevance of their learning and the challenges of applying it in industry.

Contribute to our courses

Galuwa

The Galuwa experience program, which is designed to address major barriers, will encourage 30 Indigenous high school students in Years 9–12 to have an interest in attaining a degree in one of our undergraduate courses. Importantly, the program also provides industry partners with a unique opportunity to partner with UTS to build a pipeline of future employees.

Paid work placements

There are thousands of students across multiple disciplines who are eager to build their confidence, skills and connections whilst making a positive contribution to an organisation. We’ve found that organisations which provide paid work placements to support students on their learning journey become the employment leaders when graduates are looking towards their future.

Alumni from UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building are highly sought after and well-prepared for practice in the workforce. Industry involvement during their degree significantly contributes to this outcome, and placements are increasingly important for students looking to bridge the gap between university and employment, while also providing an opportunity for organisations to interact with our highest-achieving students.

Industry and research collaboration

Do you have a pressing organisational design, system, workflow or R&D problem that needs to be solved? Are you seeking an evidence base for an existing body of work? Do you need access to our specialised equipment and facilities?

Whatever your challenge, partnering with the UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building can open the door to a wealth of new opportunities for your organisation.

We partner with forward-thinking organisations of all sizes and across a wide range of sectors. We’re always on the lookout for businesses who are pursuing the creation of knowledge, seeking to develop new practical solutions or looking for learning opportunities that build expertise and innovative capacity.

Industry partners can engage and participate in an exciting and diverse range of collaborative research projects and activities.

Gifts – bequests and endowments

You may like to make a bequest or endowment to the faculty to support our Equity, Community and Humanitarian programs and scholarships.

A bequest is a gift left in a person’s will. We rely on the generous support of visionary people to help fulfil our educational and public good mission. Bequests are an important part of this support and are of lasting significance to the faculty.

By remembering the faculty in your will, you help to ensure that we continue to provide opportunities and transformational experiences to generations of students. Through your legacy, you’ll always be an important part of the faculty. Your support will make it possible for the faculty to continue making a major contribution to the advancement of learning for the sake of humanity, long into the future.

One of the best ways to create a lasting legacy and help sustain the future is to create an endowment fund. Endowment funds are held in perpetuity and invested for long-term growth while providing an income that can be utilised for the purpose(s) designated by the donor(s). Only the interest earned on the investment is used to fund scholarships.

Giving back

Help further DAB students’ career and social prospects.

There are many ways you can make a difference in the lives of our students and at the same time enrich your own sense of well-being and satisfaction.
