The Client

Garage Entertainment (GET), an action-adventure video-on-demand provider, aims to implement new strategies for increased growth and greater commercialisation opportunities.

Garage Entertainment, a video-on-demand provider, boasts the most comprehensive action and adventure multi-media library in the world. With over 3,000 titles and an in-house production arm that produces award-winning content, the online streaming platform has become the pre-eminent action sports channel.

Viewers are able to rent individual titles or subscribe to the service on a monthly or annual basis to access the full content library.

Founded in 2009, the company has produced the critically acclaimed Australian documentary Bra Boys, the TV series The Crew and Missing, a top five download on iTunes.

The Challenge

As a media entity operating in a fragmented landscape, Garage Entertainment sought advice from the UTS Business School to develop new strategies for commercialisation, to increase market share and company growth.

The Solution

A global consumer survey and 30 primary interviews indicated to the EMBA team that Garage Entertainment should curate, aggregate and distribute film quality action-adventure multimedia content online.

The student team recommended that Garage Entertainment re-orient and invest further in its digital communication channels and provide a 'freemium' service to attract new subscribers. The recommendations included:

  • Restructuring online channels in line with Search Engine Optimisation principles, and the inclusion of a clearly defined call to action across marketing and communications collateral
  • Hosting video content on Garage Entertainment's various social platforms, and optimising content delivery across platforms seamlessly
  • Leveraging social media to connect with key influencers, deliver events based content, and focus on on-trend material
  • Establishing regional content curators to share the excitement

We found the UTS team and their passionate and systematic approach to our business incredibly impressive. We used many of their findings, recommendations and views in our business planning going forward.

- Michael Lawrence, Co-founder, Garage Entertainment
