When looking for ways to accelerate your career growth, a postgraduate degree sits top of the list, but not all degrees are created equal. Here are six ways that UTS will improve your postgraduate experience:
Six ways you’ll benefit as a UTS postgrad student
1. Designed with life in mind
Whether you have a busy working life or commitments to family and friends, life happens, and we think that should never get in the way of progress. So we’ve created flexible study options that allow you to build a timetable that suits your own schedule.
Our campus is ideally situated for those looking to attend classes after work - located in the heart of Sydney, close to Central station, and in the midst of Sydney’s growing innovation hub. Depending on your subjects, you may be able to attend classes in the evenings, in two or three-day intensive blocks, or even remotely. 2. Industry-driven ethos
Partnerships with industry and the success of our graduates in the workforce are key measures of our success. We’re recognised as the most industry-focused university in Sydney for over a decade by NSW business leaders and government (RepTrak Survey 2019).
For you, this means receiving training delivered in conjunction with our industry partners, driven by the goal of a successful re-entry into the workforce and the longer-term achievement of career aspirations. Our future-focused curriculum is delivered by industry-proven lecturers and aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in your workplace.
3. Innovation through entrepreneurship
As Australia’s number one young uni, we’ve thrived through an agile approach to education that has bypassed legacy practices to focus on delivering successful outcomes for our graduates.
This approach is essential in a time when technology is set to significantly disrupt the work landscape, with developments such as AI, machine learning and automation predicted to either significantly alter jobs, or open new, unforeseen opportunities.
To give our students the tools to adapt and thrive, we’re planning to reach 50 per cent of our students with entrepreneurial experiences by 2023, through workshops, online toolkits, and startup internship opportunities. As it stands, the UTS Startups community has more than 150 emerging businesses which are open to student participation – receiving support such as free co-working space, mentoring and industry connections.
4. Career support when it’s needed most
UTS is focused on enabling career success by teaching highly relevant skills, and it’s proving effective as our graduate salaries are above the national average when entering full-time employment.
Our commitment to you goes beyond your time spent studying with us, as our career support services are available for up to two years after you graduate. UTS offers CareerHub - a platform enabling students to search for jobs and find recruitment events - and our one-on-one career consultations, geared towards guiding students’ personal career journeys. Our career initiatives provide support across a range of topics essential to re-entering the workforce, including career direction, job search strategies, resume and cover letter reviews, and interview preparation.
5. Social justice and progress
We believe that delivering positive social change is a powerful force in the development of our local, national, and global communities, and key to our future success. At UTS, diversity in our staff and student body ultimately creates diversity of thought, which progresses academic excellence and improves the education of our students.
We’re currently working towards our UTS 2027 goal of creating a healthy, sustainable and socially just society through delivering research with positive social impact. These include projects such as the development of tech tools to mitigate issues faced by vulnerable communities and implementing our vision for Australia’s first indigenous residential college.
6. Courses that suit you
You may know that you want to upskill or learn more in a certain area, but it’s not always obvious which specific course to take. Whichever industry you are interested in, our postgraduate courses will expand your career possibilities and prepare you for the future of your work.
To help you make this decision, we’ve created UTS Open – a collection of online courses ranging from three to five hours that draw from content in our postgraduate degrees to teach commercially-orientated skills. When you’re ready, you can head to our postgraduate website to find the right course for you
