2023:
Themed “Nurses together: a force for global health”," the ICN Congress 2023 highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in achieving Universal Health Coverage and promoting sustainable development. From the 1st to the 5th of July, the congress held various workshops, aiming to inspire action, foster innovation, and build strong networks to address current and future challenges in the healthcare sector.

They will communicate their experiences and share best practices, and they will continue to strive to achieve the goal of universal health coverage for everyone, no matter where they live, or their financial circumstances.”

The Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery (GNWHOCCNM) held a meeting during the event, bringing together representatives from World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery and partners. The meeting focused on fostering collaboration and synergy among these Collaborating Centres and fostered discussions around strengthening the capacities of nurses and midwives, enhancing research and data collection, and the sharing of tools and resources. Prof. Michele Rumsey, Director of WHO CC UTS, the Secretariat of the GNWHOCCNM, facilitated the meeting presenting findings from interviews held with each collaborating centre earlier this year.
Both the GNWHOCCNM Meeting and the ICN Congress facilitated networking among participants, paving the way for future partnerships and collaborations. The exchange of ideas and experiences between nurses from different countries and specialties encouraged cross-cultural learning and the adoption of best practices worldwide.

2015:
The 2015 International Council of Nurses (ICN) International Conference and Council of National Representatives (CNR) Meeting was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, with the theme ‘Global Citizen, Global Nursing’. Plenary sessions explored the importance of cross-cultural understanding and global cooperation in nursing.
Senior staff from the WHO CC UTS including Professor John Daly and Ms Michele Rumsey attended the Conference. Professor James Buchan organised and led a workshop on nurse workforce sustainability and was a plenary speaker on the effective use of nurse workforce data for policy and planning. The meetings provided opportunities for global nursing leaders to identify the profession's priorities and future directions. The ICN Conference is an opportunity to build relationships and disseminate nursing knowledge and leadership across specialties, cultures and countries. WHO CC UTS’ attendance ensures we are part of these important conversations and able to advocate for nurses and midwives in the Western Pacific Region.
Ultimately the ICN aims to advance and improve the coverage and quality of health services by demonstrating the nursing contribution to the health of individuals, families and communities.
