• Tiang & Partners - Hong Kong or Shanghai (China)

  Tiang & Partners, the PwC Legal member firm in Hong Kong, is currently accepting applications for a 1-2 month internship. Applications are also open for an internship in Shanghai with PwC’s affiliated integrated Corporate and Regulatory Services (iCARS) team. Successful applicants will gain experience working on a variety of corporate and regulatory matters, market-changing M&A transactions, and collaborations between Australian and Chinese organisations.

• Huiye Law Firm - Shanghai (China)

  Huiye Law Firm is a leading commercial law firm in Shanghai, China. The firm has a corporate, commercial practice dealing with a range of legal areas. Students have the opportunity to intern for 4 weeks during July.

• Capital Punishment Justice Project - USA

  Capital Punishment Justice Project (CPJP) (formerly Reprieve Australia) stands for a world without the death penalty – in all circumstances for all people. CPJP works with our partner organisations, volunteers, the Australian public, and key stakeholders to develop legal and policy solutions that help save lives. We help people who are facing the death penalty access legal expertise, humanitarian assistance, diplomatic guidance, and support for their family members. This is achieved through strong relationships with anti-death penalty organisations, lawyers and advocates, to best support them in the work they do. We also work to ensure that Australia’s well-documented policy against the death penalty is upheld, always, and conduct advocacy to raise awareness of issues concerning the death penalty. 

  One of the most effective and immediate ways to assist those on death row is through the allocation of practical resources – dedicated and skilled volunteers. Since we began in 2001, CPJP has sent volunteers to work at capital defence offices, where they provide administrative support to lawyers, investigators and mitigation specialists by managing and filing materials, conducting research, visiting prisons, attending meetings with witnesses and facilitating contact between the accused and their families.

  Typically, our student volunteers will meet the costs of travel, visas, accommodation, and other expenses related to volunteering overseas, either themselves or through funding available through their university or government assistance. For potential volunteers who may otherwise not be able to meet the full costs, the Julian Wagner Memorial Fund have made funds available to CPJP to assist with a portion of the cost.

  This is a 12 week placement that will be run over the Summer Session. Students should apply directly to CPJP and if accepted, apply via careerhub to have the placement count towards the subject. Please find information on how to apply directly to CPJP here. 

• King & Wood Mallesons - Beijing (China)

  King & Wood Mallesons Our team deals with mostly with arbitration cases, either before CIETAC or arbitral institutions outside China. The intern will have opportunities to do the following work, depending on the cases we will be handling at the time of the internship:

  review the case files;attending meetings with clients;draft chronology and correspondence with clients or arbitral institutions;proofreading and drafting submissions;preparing and drafting witness statements;organising evidentiary documents, etc.

  The intern should have some Chinese language capability. This internship can be undertaken in summer or winter.

• IPHouse - Beijing (China)

  IPHouse is a company based in Beijing,China that compiles a database of Chinese Intellectual Property-related legal decisions. Students have the opportunity of undertaking a 4 week internship during the winter or summer break.

• Dentons - Shanghai (China)

  Dentons is a major global law firm with offices all over the world. Dentons office in Shanghai, China offer internship opportunities to UTS law students over a 4-week timeframe in July. To qualify for an offer from Dentons, students must have Mandarin language abilities.

• L&L Partners - Delhi (India)

  During the internship at Hengdu, students can choose to intern at either our Beijing or Shanghai office, both of which are located in landmark office buildings in the CBD area. Students will have many opportunities to participate in legal practice, including but not limited to drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, attending negotiation meetings, preparing documents for court hearings, etc.

• Duan & Duan Law Firm - China

  Duan & Duan Law Firm is a pioneer in China’s legal industry, having been established in Shanghai by returning overseas legal scholars and is a prominent full-service international law firm. It has offices across China and globally with a new office in Sydney. It offers two internship opportunities: For Chinese-background students, internships will primarily be arranged across Duan & Duan’s 30 mainland China offices. These placements will expose students to the fast-evolving Chinese legal market and allow them to operate in bilingual or Chinese-speaking environments, particularly advantageous for those intending to build a career with ties to China. Interns will contribute to actual casework, participate in internal seminars, and engage in client communications under the mentorship of senior bilingual attorneys. For non-Chinese-background students, Duan & Duan will coordinate internships in offices best suited to English-speaking legal workstreams, including the firm’s Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong offices. These placements will provide exposure to international arbitration, foreign direct investment, cross-border M&A, and global compliance practice groups. Non-Chinese interns will be assigned English-speaking supervisors and provided with extensive orientation materials and localized cultural guides to help them adapt to the legal and working culture in China. 

• Zhicheng Public Interest Law Organisation - Beijing (China)

  Zhicheng Public Interest Law Organisation: Zhicheng is the largest, and the premier law NGO in the People’s Republic of China. Initially established in in 1999 as the Beijing Children’s Legal Aid and Research Center (BCLARC), Zhicheng is now a large umbrella organisation comprising several subsidiary organizations in 33 provinces in the country. Students will intern at the head office in Beijing, China.

• GLNS - Munich (Germany)

  GLNS is a highly specialized law firm with a focus on Corporate / M&A, Tax and Litigation & Arbitration. The Munich-based law firm is one of the leading law firms in Germany in the respective advisory practices.

  Corporate/M&A advice is the core competence of GLNS. GLNS is involved in a large number of high-profile transactions. We regularly assist major companies and entrepreneurs as well as leading private equity and venture capital firms.

  In our Litigation & Arbitration practice, we represent our clients in disputes before state courts and in arbitration proceedings, including cross-border matters. In addition, lawyers from our firm act as arbitrators. The focus of our litigation practice lies in legal disputes in business and corporate law matters.

• MNLU Mumbai - Mumbai (India)

  MNLU Mumbai is one of India's premier national law schools. We host multiple centers dedicated to research in law besides offering interdisciplinary programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Collective (LHSS) at MNLU Mumbai invites applications for short-term virtual internships (4 weeks full time or 8 weeks part time). We aim to provide focused research exposure in law and humanities and social sciences to undergraduate students in the following areas: 

  • Federalism in Australian and Indian Contexts
  • Affirmative Action Policies
  • Rights of Indigenous Peoples
  • Regulatory Approaches in Combating Social Media Disinformation
  • Protection of Personality/Celebrity Rights
  • Cultural Underpinnings of Privacy

  Our faculty will guide the interns in their research project in these areas during the internship period. Interns might also have to assist the faculty in their research and teaching work. Additionally, the LHSS will invite the interns to publish their research in progress as position papers in its blog. This research could be something that the students are independently pursuing or their takeaways from the internship.
