• Course description

  This course is designed for individuals aiming to measure and evaluate crime and its effects through the lens of psychology. You will gain an understanding of the mind, brain, and behaviour, including the major factors underpinning criminal behaviour. The course provides practical skills needed for professions focused on crime prevention, detection, and enforcement, and is also the first step on the path towards becoming a registered psychologist.

  Learning will take place in the context of solving many of the biggest challenges currently faced by individuals and society, including mental health, climate change and sustainability, misinformation, cybersecurity, ageing populations, and human-computer interaction. You will also acquire in depth understanding of the broader social implications and challenges of crime.

  Distinctive in its applied focus, the course merges theoretical knowledge with industry-relevant skills, preparing you for real-world challenges in public safety and criminal justice.

  The course equips students with an understanding of the factors associated with crime, disorder and threats to public safety as well as those who are involved in criminal behaviour, those who are affected by such behaviour and those who respond to crime events. With a strong applied and industry focused curriculum, students learn and develop industry-relevant skills along with strong theoretical and practice-based knowledge.

A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. • Course duration

  The Bachelor of Psychology Bachelor of Criminology is offered at the City campus on a full-time basis over four years, or a part-time basis over eight years.

• Admission requirements

  Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

• Domestic course fees

  2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  Indicative total tuition fee:  $72,250.00

  Your tuition fees do not include: 

  • The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
  • Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
  • Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

  • The indicative tuition fees above are based on full-time study (1 year = 48 credit points).
  • Your actual fees depend on the year you enrol, your study load and the subjects you choose. Some subjects fall into different student contribution bands.

• Inherent requirements

  Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory.

• Assumed knowledge

  Any two units of English.

• Professional recognition

  This course provides the first step (i.e., APAC Level 1 foundational competencies*) on the pathway towards becoming a professionally accredited psychologist. Students may be eligible to apply for an additional fourth year Honours program, leading to APAC Level 2 pre-professional competencies which are the second step on the pathway towards becoming a professionally accredited psychologist in Australia.

  *This course is accredited by APAC with conditions.

• Recognition of prior learning

  For those with backgrounds in law enforcement, defence and corrections, their prior learning and experience is recognised.

  Recognition of prior learning will be granted on the basis of successful completion of equivalent subjects from an APAC-accredited Level 1 program in Psychology within the last 10 years.

• Important notes

  This course has a limited acceptance period and offers must be accepted by the following deadlines based on when you received your offer via UAC:

  • If you received your offer in October Round 2 (16 October 2025), November Round 1 (13 November 2025) or November Round 2 (27 November 2025, you must accept your offer by Friday 12 December 2025.
  • If you received your offer in December Round 1 (11 December 2025), December Round 2 (23 December 2025) or January Round 1 (8 January 2026), you must accept your offer by Friday 16 January 2026.
  • Pending course availabilities, if you received your offer in or after January Round 2 (22 January 2026), you must accept your offer by 2 March 2026. 

  Offers which have passed the dates above will not be valid.

  UTS undergraduate psychology courses are accredited by APAC with conditions.
