• Course description

  This course is designed for aspiring midwives seeking professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Choose this program for a comprehensive blend of midwifery theory, science, and hands-on experience in diverse health settings. As the pioneer of the Bachelor of Midwifery in New South Wales, our curriculum is distinctive, ensuring you become a confident, competent practitioner aligned with international midwifery standards.

  You will acquire critical skills in maternal and newborn care, fostering your ability to support, educate, and empower women during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Our teaching approach combines interactive lectures, practical simulations, and clinical placements for an immersive learning experience that translates theory into practice effectively.

  The Bachelor of Midwifery program prepares students for registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. UTS delivered the first Bachelor of Midwifery program in New South Wales.

• Year 12 adjustment factor scheme

  If you perform highly in your Year 12 subjects, your selection rank may be boosted by the Year 12 subject scheme.

  The scheme, which is automatically applied, awards selection rank adjustments to your application based on your marks in subjects that are relevant to the courses you have applied to.

• ATAR and selection ranks

  Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

• Course duration

  The course is offered at City campus on a three-year, full-time basis.

• Admission requirements

  Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

  The UTS Year 12 Adjustment Factor Scheme awards adjustment factors to students based on their performance in selected high school subjects that are relevant to the course they have applied for.

  Current school leaver applicants are assessed solely on ATAR.

  Entry to the course is competitive. Applicants who are over 20 and do not have competitive recognised academic qualifications are encouraged to complete a TAFE diploma qualification or higher or sit a Special Tertiary Admissions Test.

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

• Domestic course fees

  2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  Indicative first-year tuition fee:  $4,738.00

  Indicative total tuition fee:  $14,572.00

  Your tuition fees do not include: 

  • The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
  • Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
  • Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

  • The indicative tuition fees above are based on full-time study (1 year = 48 credit points).
  • Your actual fees depend on the year you enrol, your study load and the subjects you choose. Some subjects fall into different student contribution bands.

• Inherent requirements

  Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory.

• Assumed knowledge

  Any two units of English.

  Any two units of science and any two units of mathematics are recommended.

• Professional recognition

  Provides eligibility to apply for registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

• Important notes

  Offers
  This course has a limited acceptance period and offers must be accepted by the following deadlines based on when you received your offer via UAC:
  If you received your offer on or before 8 January 2026 (January Round 1), or 22 January 2026 (January Round 2), you must accept it by 6 February 2026.
  Offers which have passed the dates above will not be valid.

  Clinical Placements
  Clinical placement is a mandatory component of the Bachelor of Midwifery at UTS, and all students must meet NSW Health and UTS compliance requirements before they can attend placement.  This includes mandatory vaccinations, police checks, Working with Children Check, mask‑fit testing (where required), First Aid certification, and meeting the UTS Inherent Requirements for safe participation in clinical learning. Students must maintain their compliance status throughout their degree, as failure to do so will prevent placement and may delay course progression.   This course is not offered to international students.

  Mandatory Student Registration with AHPRA:

  It is a legal requirement that students enrolled in health degrees must be registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency). AHPRA student registration is free.

  Students enrolled in approved programs of study will be registered by UTS with AHPRA from the first year of their program (before they attend their first clinical placement).

  Student Registration ends when a student completes or ceases to be enrolled in an approved program of study or clinical training.

  Mandatory Student Registration with AHPRA upon completion:

  Midwifery students will be required to apply online for registration as health practitioner four to six weeks before or once they complete their degree. Please ensure you read the Board specific registration information.

  • AHPRA will finalise your registration once they have been notified by the University.
  • If you are registering as a current graduate you are not required to provide your transcript to AHPRA.
  • AHPRA will only require your academic transcript as proof you have completed your degree if you are applying for registration after you have graduated.

  Once you are registered as a health professional your details are available on the AHPRA Register of Practitioners.
