When and where will the college be built?
The College will be built on the existing UTS site 13-15 and includes the adaptive re-use of the local heritage listed building on the corner of Harris Street and Mary Ann Street, Ultimo.
Where is the funding coming from?
To realise the vision, UTS is pursuing a multiparty funding model with costs shared between the university, government, business and philanthropic partners. Once funding is secured, the transformational project will bring diverse partners together for a unique educational initiative that has at its heart the goal of a reconciled nation.
Do you have to be Indigenous to access the college?
No, all UTS students are welcome to apply. This is a culturally inclusive space focused on embracing and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures, as part of our Australian identity.
Do Indigenous students have to reside in the college?
No. Residing in the college is completely optional and Indigenous students will be able to engage with the college community regardless of whether they chose to live there. While the college aims to support a strong Indigenous resident community and provide accommodation for as many Indigenous students as possible, there is no obligation or requirement for Indigenous students to reside in the college. The college is about celebrating diversity and incorporating the impressive breadth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, contributions and perspectives into everyday life for students and is intended to be a place of connection, belonging and opportunity for Indigenous students, whether they reside there or not.
How will the college benefit all of Australian society?
The college's impact will extend well beyond its residents. As a place for accommodation, learning, cultural exchange and community engagement, it will bring together Indigenous, non-Indigenous and international students in a living and learning environment shaped by Indigenous Australian knowledge and values.
The college will create opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and knowledge systems. In doing so, it will contribute to greater understanding, connection and respect across the broader Australian society.
