Autumn Semester dates: 15 February 2027 - 14 May 2027
Spring Semester dates: 26 July 2027 - 22 October 2027
Internship placements can be between 140 and 160 hours for the internship subject; these hours can be completed part-time or full-time. Students must be supervised during their placement by a nominated internship supervisor from within the host organisation. This supervisor will support the student’s learning by setting tasks, providing feedback and offering guidance when needed. Internships can be on-site at the host organisation, remotely working from home (WFH), or a hybrid of both.

Designing a data science internship
Just as no two datasets are the same, no two internships are the same. Data science internships can take many shapes and forms, and are dependent on the demands of your business and the skills in demand. Here are some suggestions to insoire the endless opportunities of hosting a data science intern:
- Research: Host an intern to assist in a research project.
- Analytics: Interns can assist your team with applying analytical problem solving on a given dataset, identifying new or missed opportunities.
- Emerging practice: Bring in an intern to help apply the newest and emerging data science practices on your current operations and improve capabilities.
- Project: Host multiple interns, inviting them to work on a dataset and contribute a new fresh perspective.
All internships can be undertaken by individual or a team of MDSI students where a host organisation finds appropriate.
Important: Organisations looking to host students for data science internships, need to confirm placements with successful applicants, prior to subject start dates (ideally a minimum of two week prior). This is to allow time for all internship paperwork to be completed and internships to be approved for course credit.
