Am I eligible?
You are eligible to apply if you:
- are a domestic applicant (an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa)
- completed Year 12 in 2023 and have commenced tertiary studies at another institution; or
- completed Year 12 in 2022 or earlier
- are preferencing C10308 Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication or C10309 Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication Bachelor of International Studies
- meet UTS course requirements
Application process
- Submit an UAC application (opens in external site)
- Preference C10308 Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication or C10309 Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication Bachelor of International Studies
- Prepare your portfolio for submission. We recommend that you start preparing your portfolio now, so that you can submit your best work by the closing date.
- Submit your application between 1 May to 10 June 2024.
- Check the portfolio requirements specific to Visual Communication you are applying:
Architecture and Landscape Architecture courses
- A digital portfolio (max. 5MB) of 6 x A4 Landscape pages in a single PDF document
- Include your name and UAC application number on the first page
- Include five pages of scans and/or photographs (compressed jpegs for web viewing) of original design work relevant to the course
- Include a one-page written submission (150-200 words) that discusses the aims and relative success of at least one of the submitted piece of work
- Be formatted in 16-point Helvetica with 1.5 line spacing for optimal viewing
Fashion and Textiles / Interior Architecture / Visual Communication courses
- A digital portfolio (max. 5MB) of 6 x A4 Landscape pages in a single PDF document.
- May include images, animation or video
- Include your name and UAC application number on the first page
- Include five pages of scans and/or photographs (compressed jpegs for web viewing) of original design work relevant to the course
- Include a one-page written submission (150-200 words) that discusses the aims and relative success of at least one of the submitted piece of work
- Be formatted in 16-point Helvetica with 1.5 line spacing for optimal viewing
Product Design course
- A digital portfolio (max. 5MB) of 6 x A4 Portrait pages in a single PDF document.
- May include images, animation or video
- Must include photographs of artefacts that have been made by you
- Include your name and UAC application number on the first page
- Include five pages of scans and/or photographs (compressed jpegs for web viewing) of original design work relevant to the course
- Include a one-page written submission (150-200 words) that discusses the aims and relative success of at least one of the submitted piece of work
- Be formatted in 16-point Helvetica with 1.5 line spacing for optimal viewing
How do I get an offer after submitting my portfolio?
- The Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building will review all submitted portfolios and shortlist applicants they would like to interview.
- If you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited to an interview with faculty members.
- If you’re successful at the interview, and meet UTS Matriculation (see Eligibility section), you will receive an offer via UAC in July Round 1.
- If you’re not shortlisted or are not successful at the interview, you’ll still be considered for offers in later rounds (provided there are vacancies), based on any eligible academic study you have completed.
I got shortlisted for an interview! How do I prepare for this?
- Faculty will email you the date, time and location. Make sure to check your junk/spam inbox in case you don’t see it!
- All interviews take place between 17 June to 4 July 2024.
- Interviews will be in-person at UTS or via Zoom (to be confirmed via interview invitation).
How to prepare:
- Highly recommend bringing to the interview a design portfolio (digital or physical) expanding upon the application portfolio submitted.
- Highly recommend bringing physical models of an appropriate size. Good quality photographs of the work is acceptable if the models are large or difficult to transport.
- Be ready to discuss your portfolio processes and final work.
FAQ
I forgot to add something to my portfolio. Can I make changes to my portfolio after I’ve submitted my application?
Once submitted, you won’t be able to make changes to your portfolio. Please ensure your application is complete before submitting.
How will I know that I was successful or unsuccessful?
Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email. Make sure to check your junk/spam inbox in case you don’t see it.
