CSP tips for postgraduate students
CSP, HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP. With so many options, understanding how to finance your postgrad degree can be overwhelming. We’ve listed some of our top CSP tips below.
1. What is CSP?
If you are admitted to UTS as a Commonwealth supported student, you hold a Commonwealth supported place (CSP). This means that the Australian Government will make a contribution towards the cost of your education and you pay the balance through student contributions.
2. Make sure you’re eligible
There are two main categories for CSP eligibility. You can either be an Australian citizen studying at least one subject contributing to your course within Australia. Or you can be a permanent visa holder, or New Zealand citizen and be a resident in Australia for the duration of your subject.
3. Check your course
Postgraduate courses look a little different to undergraduate courses when it comes to CSP. Make sure you double check if your course has CSP positions available if you want to apply.
4. Read the requirements
Deciding who gets a Commonwealth Support Place is usually done by merit (either academic merit or work merit) and it is determined directly by the faculty. Each faculty has their own procedure, and some consider interviews, personal statements or academic merit. Make sure you read the admission criteria for each course so you don’t miss out!
