Jacqui Park is joining the Centre for Media Transition at the University of Technology, Sydney, as a senior fellow in Asia Pacific journalism, where she will spearhead the centre’s work in innovation, press freedom and sustainable public interest journalism in the region.
CMT co-director Peter Fray says: “Jacqui has long been one of the thought leaders in Australian media innovation. We’re excited about her joining the centre’s team and are looking forward to working together on these key issues confronting media in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.”
Her first project is to draft an innovation map to identify the practical challenges for media today and the individual solutions being worked on to build the new media ecosystem, both in emerging and in traditional organisations.

Jacqui is a journalist who was founding CEO of the Walkley Foundation where she was the founding editor of the Walkley Magazine and created the Storyology Festival of Journalism. She developed and launched Australia’s first media innovation fund and incubator while at the Foundation.
She was founding Director of the International Federation of Journalists Asia Pacific, working on press freedom and media development across the region. Since leaving the IFJ, she has been working in the region on the use of human centred design to support media in transition and to mainstream gender in organisational development.

She was a 2016 JS Knight Fellow at Stanford University where she studied human centred design at the Hasso-Plattner Institute of Design and innovation and entrepreneurship at the university’s Graduate School of Business.
The Centre for Media Transition is a UTS research centre concerned with three areas: news media regulation and press freedom; news media best practice, and new business models for journalism. It sits within the faculties of law and social sciences and collaborates with academics, industry and other parties interested in the future of the news media industry and its ongoing transition.
