The Dr Chau Chak Wing scholarship program offers prestigious international study opportunities, enabling outstanding young people to share cultural and intellectual exchange between UTS and China. Dr Chau Chak Wing’s incredible gift to UTS includes this scholarship program and the construction of the multi-award winning, Frank Gehry designed, Dr Chau Chak Wing Building - home of the UTS Business School.
Dr Chau has worked tirelessly to promote bilateral ties between Australia and China, and supports a number of initiatives to promote bilateral cultural exchange and global citizenship, particularly focusing on the next generation of leaders.
About Chau Chak Wing scholarship
Established Dr Chau Chak Wing, the Dr Chau Chak Wing Scholarship is a visionary program empowering cultural and intellectual exchange between China and Australia.
The focus of the scholarship program is to support academic excellence and build relationships between Chinese and Australian students. The program offers long and short term study options at UTS and universities across China. Since it was established in 2012, the Scholarship has built a strong and cohesive network of engaged scholars with mutual bonds forged by shared experiences and cultural appreciation.

Dr Chau Chak Wing is an Australian business leader, philanthropist, and prominent figure in the Australian-Chinese community.
Born in China's Guangdong province, at a young age Dr Chau migrated to Hong Kong where he built his business from the ground up, before moving to Australia with his family in the 1980s and falling in love with the country’s values and culture. He became a citizen over two decades ago.
For over 30 years, Dr Chau has continued to grow his business and philanthropic endeavours in Australia, China and around the world, with extensive interests in property development, education, agriculture, hospitality, healthcare, media and banking.
Dr Chau has worked tirelessly to promote bilateral ties between Australia and China, and supports a number of initiatives to promote bilateral cultural exchange and global citizenship, particularly focusing on the next generation of leaders.
Dr Chau has also worked to foster cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and education. His efforts have been acknowledged and commended by the governments and people of the two countries.
With a long-held passion for nurturing Australia’s rich past and promising future, Dr Chau supports veterans charity Soldier On, as well as the University of Technology and the University of Sydney.
In 2015, Dr Chau officially established the annual Imperial Springs International Forum to facilitate regional and global cooperation through citizen diplomacy. Imperial Springs has also hosted a number of other high-level forums, including the Global Economic Forum, the Global Summit of SME Leaders, the Going to Latin America Forum and the China–Australia Economic Forum.
Dr Chau is the Founder and Chairman of the Kingold Group, Chair of the Asia-Pacific Region of the World Leadership Alliance – Club de Madrid President’s Circle, Patron of Australia China Business Council NSW, Fellow of Australian War Memorial, Honorary Ambassador of Soldier On and Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center Global Circle.
