AAII has played a pivotal role in advancing UTS’s research excellence through groundbreaking work in cutting-edge AI fields.

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has further strengthened its position as a global research leader, achieving an international ranking of 85 and a national ranking of 7 in the 2026–2027 Best Global Universities rankings released by U.S. News & World Report on 16 June 2026.

The prestigious rankings assess more than 2,250 universities worldwide based on research performance, global and regional reputation, and scholarly impact. UTS continues to maintain its place among the world's top 100 universities, reflecting the University's growing international reputation and research excellence.

UTS’s strong performance was underpinned by outstanding results across several key indicators, including regional research reputation and highly cited research publications.

The University also demonstrated exceptional strength across a broad range of disciplines, with 10 of its evaluated research fields ranked among the world's top 50.

Artificial Intelligence emerged as one of UTS’s standout areas of excellence, achieving a global ranking of 15 and retaining its position as the No. 1-ranked AI research field in Australia.

This achievement reflects the significant contributions of researchers from the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII), whose world-leading research, high-impact publications, and international collaborations have helped elevate UTS's standing in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

AAII has played a pivotal role in advancing UTS’s research excellence through groundbreaking work in machine learning, data science, computer vision, natural language processing, and responsible AI. The Institute's strong research output and growing global influence continue to enhance UTS’s reputation as a leading destination for artificial intelligence research and innovation.
