10 ways UTS can help your child get career ready

5 June 2023

Hello UTS Home

With so many universities to choose from, deciding which uni is best for your student can be a difficult decision. However, one key factor to consider is how well a university prepares its students for their future careers. After all, the ultimate goal of higher education is to prepare students for success in the workforce.

At UTS, the entire learning model is designed to help students thrive in the workforce once they graduate. Plus they also have a vast range of services available to support learning and ensure every student has their greatest chance at success. Here are 10 of the many ways UTS helps their students get career ready so that they’re ready to join the workforce as soon as they graduate.

Student talking to mentor

Mentoring

UTS has one of the best mentoring programs available at a university. The program is really casual, so there aren’t any awkward introductions. Students are paired with volunteer mentors based on similar interests and aspirations so your student can connect with their mentor on a personal level as well as professionally.

Peer Tutoring

Students who feel like they could use a little bit of extra support can reach out to the UTS Students’ Association for free tutoring sessions. The association is run by students, for students and also offers free breakfasts and suppers, student support, and a magazine on top of tutoring.

Community and Leadership Programs

UTS facilitates a selection of community and leadership programs designed to help students network, gain valuable skills and have great experience to add to their CV. With programs like peer networking, global leadership and entrepreneurship, UTS has a program that will help your student develop the necessary skills and experience to thrive in their chosen industry.

Career-Ready Learning Model

The UTS Model of Learning has three main focuses that are interrelated in our students' practice-oriented learning experience. These are: integrated exposure to professional practice, professional practice in a global workplace and research-inspired and integrated learning. UTS’ learning model is designed to set students up for success in the workforce by preparing them for the practical application of the concepts they learn, rather than just overloading them with information. For example, studying at UTS opens the door to some fantastic internship opportunities, and chances to network overseas, like Global Studios, giving students the option of short study trips to the likes of London, Japan, Korea and so many other countries.

U:Pass

If your student is studying a subject that has is commonly perceived as quite difficult, they will be able to receive specialised tutoring from someone well versed in that subject to give students every chance at succeeding in that subject and picking up as much knowledge as possible to give them the edge over job applicants in the future.

Student mentoring

Student Counsellors

Learning becomes that much harder when you’re not feeling at your best, which is why UTS has on-site counsellors to confidentially support your student free of charge. Whether they’re struggling with their mental health, stress from uni, questioning whether they’ve chosen the right degree, or just want to improve their learning skills in general, the dedicated student councillors are there to help.

Assignment Support

Nailing assignments is a huge part of success at uni and they help students to develop skills that are necessary for a successful career. However, students may face a range of challenges when completing assignments, such as difficulty understanding the assignment requirements, struggling with time management, or lack of confidence in their writing abilities. The assignment support services at UTS can assist students overcome these challenges and achieve their academic goals.

Bridging Courses

Confidence is the key to success at university, and understanding the concepts you’re learning day-to-day is a huge confidence booster. If your child has any concerns about keeping up with other students, there’s a wide range of bridging courses they can take at UTS to get them up to speed before the semester starts. With classes in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, all bases are covered.

Skills Workshops

Need a few extra tips for studying, time management or even some pointers on improving your speaking and writing skills? UTS has a wide range of workshops available for students that want an extra hand. These workshops are free to attend and are available for all UTS students.

First BASE Program

UTS’ First BASE (Belonging, Agency, Support, Engagement) Program is designed to help first year students adjust to university so they get as much out of uni as possible and graduate ready for a successful career. This program is personalised to each student to assist their transition from high school to university and set them up with the knowledge, skills and support they need to have a great uni experience.

Choosing a university that prioritises career readiness is crucial to ensure your student’s success in the workforce. By choosing a university with a learning model that provides the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to succeed in today's competitive job market, students will be ahead of their competition when applying for jobs. With its focus on practical experience, support services, and networking opportunities, each student will graduate well-equipped to make their professional aspirations a reality.
