The 'stress less' guide to Autumn session

8 February 2023

Starting something new can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time, and that’s why we understand that starting uni can seem overwhelming!

So we've thought about all the questions that might be floating around your head and smushed them into a handy guide to set you up for success in Autumn session (and beyond).

1. Need a hand with enrolling?

The UTS Student Centre and UTS IT team have banded together to bring you workshops where they cover the enrolment process – step by step and answer all burning questions. The workshop will take place on Tues 14 Feb (both online and in person) so you're covered no matter where you are. Register your interest so you don't miss out!

2. Looking for a group to share your interests with?

If you're looking for someone to share that niche mechanical keyboard hobby with look no further than the 180+ student clubs and societies that UTS has on offer. Not sure what a club or society could offer you? These groups are the perfect way to make friends and find events that can give you a much-needed break from your studies. Whether it's playing a sport, volunteering, performing, connecting with your faculty group, learning a language or celebrating a hobby, there is a society or club for you!

3. Don't have your UTS student ID card yet?

If you haven't already spiced up your wallet with your fresh new UTS student ID Card make sure you apply for one now. Your UTS student ID card is your key (literally) to great student deals and discounts, entry to UTS buildings and concession fares on NSW transport so always have it with you.

4. Want to level up your student social life?

ActivateUTS are the go-to for all things fun and social on campus. Aside from running our clubs and societies, they're here to help you make the most of your social calendar while you're studying. First big event you need to go to? O'Fest, a perfect way to start your year complete with live acts, drinks, food. Can't make that event? There's many more where that came from!

5. Unsure about getting to and around campus?

We know that our big brown tower might act like a beacon to some, but it can be tricky getting to and around campus the first few times.

As much as it's a right of passage to get lost in Central Station, our top tips for getting to campus can point you in the right direction. There are more ways to get to campus then you might think, so find out which option is best for you!

If you're looking to find out all things campus (including what those random looking numbers on your timetable mean) our orientation guide will get you way-finding like an absolute pro. Remember that there's no shame in asking for help. There are plenty of student help points, like the Student Learning Hub, all around campus with people who can get you on your way.

Extra tip: If you've had a chance to explore campus already, you might have heard some confusing lingo dropped around you. The UTS buildings are quirky looking all by themselves and their 'official' names might be a bit too hard to remember. Find out what we what we really call buildings around campus and you'll be sounding like a UTS veteran in no time.

6. Want to know where you can eat?

If you're mad about Mexican or craving the joys of a HSP, the UTS food spaces have it all. On campus you'll find two bars for after-class drinks, $3 regular coffee deals, boba discounts and more.

If bringing in food from home is your 2023 new year's resolution, we've got you covered. Our campus is fitted with student spaces and kitchens that feature instant hot/chilled water, vending machines, microwaves and sandwich toasters for your next Gordon Ramsay style study snack.

Looking for more info on starting at UTS? Keep up with us on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram for more tips and tricks and we'll see you on campus!
