Life after graduation: Ghina Najjar’s dream job

27 September 2018

Learn more about life after graduation with Master of GMP graduate, Ghina.

We first met Ghina Najjar back in 2015 when she came to Australia to study a Master of Good Manufacturing Practice. Ghina has since graduated and is pursuing her passion for manufacturing at one of Australia and New Zealand’s most respected chemical distribution companies, IXOM.

We caught up with Ghina to learn about her experience at UTS and life after study.

Student at graduation

Why did you choose to study at UTS and do a Master of Good Manufacturing Practice?

I chose to study at UTS because of its great reputation and amazing location. UTS is one of best young universities in the world. Studying at UTS offered me an amazing experience; it provided me with access to advanced technology opportunities, to learn from great professionals who are experts in their fields and a multicultural environment.

Choosing the Master of Good Manufacturing Practice was a big decision for me. I had a passion for manufacturing from a young age and my pharmaceutical studies left me with a desire to learn more about the industrial process and apply good manufacturing practices. So, I did a comprehensive search and when I came across the GMP program at UTS I was very excited to enrol in this postgraduate course.

Tell us about your job!

I am currently working at IXOM. For the duration of my studies, I was always searching for experience and learning opportunities. I attended lots of career fairs and I conducted a lot of research into pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing companies. I came across the IXOM Team at the Big Meet Sydney Career Fair and was inspired by their enthusiasm. After finding out more about IXOM’s core values and principles, I knew I wanted to join their team.

I successfully joined IXOM Life Science’s division as a member of the customer service team. I work closely with Account Managers, Product Managers, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, Logistics and Supply Chain Managers to meet our customer’s needs and deliver high quality products. Most of my customers are either pharmaceutical companies or large food manufacturing companies.

In this role, I hope to learn from my leaders and apply the knowledge I gained from my studies, to be a great and productive team member. I aspire to be involved in process development, optimisation and quality assurance frameworks.

What advice do you have for students considering studying GMP?

I would like to advise students considering studying GMP to benefit from every project, case study and from all provided resources – to appreciate the importance of this field and how this will impact on many other aspects within a small, medium and complex type of business or process. I highly recommend for them to engage with their lecturers and colleagues because good communication will help to understand more and contribute more. Try as much as you can to gain practical or firsthand experience.

How are you enjoying Sydney?

I consider Sydney the best liveable city, especially for international students. I am enjoying the nature, weather, food and the multicultural diversity. People are friendly and supportive, and all respect each other in a way that they live in a special harmony. I like the way they work hard and they appreciate discipline and diversities.
