In summary:

  • Nursing (including Midwifery) is among four subjects at UTS that have been ranked in the Top 50 in the world in the ARWU subject rankings.
  • A further four subjects have achieved Top 100 status.

The nursing and midwifery programs at UTS have once again been ranked the leader in Australia in a prestigious global ranking of university subjects.

Nursing and Midwifery are among four subjects at UTS that have been ranked as being in the Top 50 in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Global Ranking of Academic Subjects [opens external site] with a further three subjects achieving Top 100 status in their field.

As well as being first in Australia, nursing and midwifery was rated equal-sixth in the world, up from ninth place in this ranking last year. It is also highly rated in the QS World University Rankings by Subject [opens external site], where it was ranked seventh in the 2018 listing.

"This remarkable result and improved standing in our global rankings position is a testament to the exceptionally high-quality nursing and midwifery research and knowledge translation conducted at UTS," says Professor Fiona Brooks, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health.

“Nurses and midwives play a crucial role in health promotion, disease prevention and treatment across the global health system. That’s why we deliver innovative and collaborative research that aims to have transformative effects on health systems, professional practice and health policy."

The Academic Ranking of World Universities by academic subjects covers 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. In total, more than 4000 universities were ranked this year. Ranking indicators include measures of research quality such as publication volume, citations, the extent of international collaboration, and the total number of staff in a subject area who have won significant awards.
