Gathering crucial information about consumers' perceptions, habits and needs will inform the way forward for distributed energy resources.

In 2019, ISF was commissioned by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to analyse reports from across 20 ARENA-funded distributed energy resources (DER) initiatives (a collective term referring to solar PV units, battery storage, thermal storage, electric vehicles and chargers, smart meters and home energy management technologies).

This resulted in two reports, the first detailing the customer journey for DER users, and the second identifying their values and motivations for using DERs. Forming part of ARENA's 'DER Customer Insights Series', these two publications provide important market intelligence to renewable energy providers so that they may attract, service and – crucially – retain their customers into the future.
