HTI welcomes the introduction of the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (Cth)  as the first step in strengthening the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), however much more is needed to modernise Australia’s privacy law for the 21st century.

Submission to the Attorney-General's Department on Draft Identity Verification Services Rules

APRIL 2024

HTI's submission to the Attorney-General's Department on the Draft Identity Verification Services Rules recommends that the Draft Rules be extended to privacy protections; redress and law enforcement reporting to address overlap and uncertainty.

Submission to Attorney-General’s Department: Consultation on doxing and privacy reforms

MARCH 2024

HTI was invited to make a submission to the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) on proposed reform of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) to address the issue of ‘doxxing,’ which the AGD defines as the intentional online exposure of an individual’s identity, private information or personal details without their consent.

Submission to Senate Economics Committee on Digital ID Bill

JANUARY 2024

HTI’s submission to the Digital ID Bill 2023 and the accompanying consequential amendments bill argues that the Bill, although containing positive elements, needs to be improved to meet privacy and other human rights requirements.

Submission in support of the United Nations High-Level AI Advisory Body

SEPTEMBER 2023

In 2023 the United Nations Tech Envoy announced the creation of a High-Level Artificial Intelligence Advisory Body to foster a globally inclusive approach to AI governance. This is a short paper in support of the body with suggestions for how it can contribute to robust interoperable AI governance on an international level.

Letter to New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner on consultation on biometrics and privacy
