Entry requirements

If you want to apply as an Exchange student, you must be nominated by your home institution. Your home institution must be a current Exchange partner of UTS.

Academic requirements

• You must have completed at least one full year (60 ECTS) of study at a recognised institution at the time of application. If you have not completed one full year of study, you can still apply if you have an accepted qualification. If you are assessed under a different grading system or are applying with a high school diploma, contact studyabroad.exchange@uts.edu.au for more information.

• You must have a credit or good average or a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or an average grade of C or higher on the European ECTS grading scale. 

English language proficiency

UTS has English language proficiency requirements for all courses.

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency. You can do this by meeting the minimum scores below in an approved English language test, or you will need to provide alternative evidence. 

Minimum English language entry scores for study abroad and exchange programs

Test scores are only recognised if they were obtained less than 2 years prior to application.

Alternative English language evidence

While UTS accepts the following alternative evidence for eligible students, please note that that the Australian Department of Home Affairs may still ask for an approved English language test (external link) as part of your visa application.

• Citizenship: If you are a citizen of and currently studying in one of following countries, you may apply with a UTS English Language Proficiency Assessment form: Austria, Belgium, Canada (Quebec), Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden or Switzerland.
• One year of university study in English:  If you have completed at least one year of full-time study taught in English at a university, you may use this as evidence of English proficiency. If this is not clearly stated on your transcript, you need to provide a supporting letter from your home university.
• High school English proficiency: If you are a citizen of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden or Switzerland, and you completed high school there, a final mark of 75% or higher in English subject can be considered as equivalent.

Fees and living expenses

Tuition fees

Your tuition fees depend on your program and the number of credit points you take.

UTS subjects are usually valued at 6 credit points each. However, some subjects may be valued at 8 or 12 credit points. 

Important notes:

1. A combination of 6- and 8-credit-point (or 12-cp) subjects may result in study loads that differ from the standard 18 or 24 credit points.
2. Study Abroad students who undertake more credit points than included in their program will incur an additional tuition fee. For 2027, additional credit points are charged A$491.25 per credit point. If you have any questions about how your subject choices may affect your tuition fees, please contact us.
3. Tuition fees do not include textbooks, course materials or other study-related expenses.
4. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change at the beginning of each calendar year. If you commence in Spring Session (starting July) and study for two semesters, please be aware that fees for the following Autumn Session (starting February/March) may increase.
5. Tuition fees must be paid upon acceptance into the UTS Study Abroad program, unless you are paying through your agent (or home institution) rather than directly to UTS.
6. All applicants are encouraged to read the Protocol on refund of fees for international students before submitting an application.

Accommodation and living costs

All students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation in Sydney.

UTS offers on-campus accommodation at Yura Mudang, a student residence managed UTS Housing. UTS Housing offers a limited number of places (around 150 beds) exclusively for Study Abroad and Exchange students.
