BUILD delivers and endorses a variety of events, workshops, online courses and experiential activities, to help you achieve your core and elective points. The content address three broad areas:

  • Individual identity as a global citizen (your attitude, values and skill set)
  • Ideas and issues affecting our global and local community; and
  • Implementing learning to deliver positive social impact in the world

To complete the BUILD Program, you need to achieve a minimum of:

  • 40 Core points via core activities
  • 60 Elective points via events, online courses and experiential activities
  • Personal reflection task

Once you have completed your reflection, you will be invited to the next upcoming Completion Celebration held twice per year, once at the end of each main academic session. You will then receive your BUILD Completion Certificate and the BUILD Program will be recognised on your Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS).

Core Workshops

BUILD core activities provide the foundation for you to develop the awareness, skills and knowledge that underpins your global leadership journey. The topics explore your identity as a leader and global citizen and help you develop the skills and mindsets required to make meaningful contributions to society.

Electives

BUILD electives include events, online courses and experiential activities designed to complement your foundational Core knowledge. Some of these are delivered by the BUILD Program and others are opportunities endorsed by BUILD and delivered in collaboration with, or by internal UTS or external organisations.

BUILD is designed to be thought-provoking, educational and practical and the suite of electives cover all of these areas. You can choose which electives suit your interests and your leadership journey.

You can find a full list of Core and Electives via CareerHub after you join BUILD (opens an external site).

NOTICE: All online seminars have been phased out as of 31 January 2024 and will only be accessible via the Beyond BUILD Careerhub page thereafter. BUILD members will no longer be able to claim BUILD elective points for this opportunity after this date.

We thank you for your support and patience as we transition the program content to enhance your leadership journey with us.

Tracking your program

You can track your progress through the BUILD program on your CareerHub dashboard. It can take 2-3 days for your submitted electives or your event attendance to be reviewed, approved and uploaded.

Via the dashboard, you will be able to view your cumulative points tally across core and elective experiences and know when you are close to 100 points.

We recommend planning your program over one year, or you may choose to spread it out over the duration of your UTS course.

Completing your program

Once you have achieved the program requirements, CareerHub will invite you to complete your overall BUILD Program Reflection and consider how you have changed over your BUILD global leadership journey. The reflection helps you review your identity as a global citizen and assess the skills and competences you have developed towards becoming a global leader. The reflection is a valuable step for BUILD to help us assess the impact of the program.

Once you have completed your reflection, you will be invited to the next Completion Celebration. These are held twice per year, once at the end of each main academic session. You will receive your BUILD Completion Certificate and the BUILD Program will be recognised on your Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS).

Can I continue in the BUILD program after completion?

You are welcome to continue attending BUILD events where we have sufficient capacity. As each event earns BUILD points, we preference students who are still seeking to earn points towards their overall 100. There may be BUILD on-campus volunteer opportunities you can support or other BUILD endorsed events you can attend.

Your global citizenship and leadership learning does not end when you complete the BUILD Program. It is a life long journey of engaging in a globalised world and we encourage you to continue seeking out your own opportunities and experiences to further your personal development.
