In exceptional circumstances, School of Communication students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences may be allowed to study a limited number of subjects at another approved tertiary institution and have these counted towards their UTS course.

Students will not be granted permission to undertake concurrent study if UTS offers the equivalent subjects or if students wish to accelerate their studies. Students must apply before starting studies at another institution and must have prior approval from UTS School of Communication.

Students must complete an Application for Concurrent Study form, including a personal statement of the reason for the application. Applications must be submitted at least four weeks before the start of the teaching period during which the student wishes to undertake the study. The official subject outlines (including topics covered, class hours, type of assessment and textbooks) must be attached to the application.

On successful completion of Concurrent Study, you must submit the copy of the concurrent study approval notification and a certified copy of an academic transcript with the grading system issued by the host institution. Lodge your application by mail or in person at the Student Centre. If you are planning to graduate once the Concurrent Study is completed, please note that strict graduation deadlines apply.

The following general principles apply when assessing an application for concurrent studies for the School of Communication:

  • Subjects must be substantially different from subjects offered at UTS.

  • Subjects must relate to the major field of study being undertaken at UTS.

  • Only elective subjects will normally be credited.

  • The host organisation is a UTS key partner university/organisation or a suitable Australian university.

  • The subjects proposed equate to 6cp or 8cp UTS School of Communication subjects.

Anomalies/misadventures will be considered case by case.

Students in the School of Education or the School of International Studies should contact their Schools for specific information about concurrent study.
