Overview
This prize was established in 2016 in memory of Narelle Faye Smith, who joined the University of Technology, Sydney in 1992 and was Leader (Teaching and Learning) in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the time of her death in November 2012. It is awarded each year for the best performance by a student in the subject 37495 Statistical Design and Models for Evaluation Studies in the preceding year.
Who is eligible?
- The recipient must be enrolled in and receive a result in the subject 37495 Statistical Design and Models for Evaluation Studies [1] in the year immediately prior to the selection of the Prize
- The recipient must not have received a result for any previous attempt in this subject.
- The result achieved must be a minimum of 75D.
[1]If 37253 Sample Surveys is not offered in the academic year and the donor nominates another subject in its place, the Prize will be awarded to the student who receives the highest final mark in the nominated subject according to the eligibility and selection criteria and selection process identified in these Conditions of Award.
Selection process
- The Prize will be awarded to the student that receives the highest final mark in the subject in the relevant year.
In the event that two or more eligible students have the same highest final mark, the following criteria will be considered:
a) Performance in subject 37495 Statistical Design and Models for Evaluation Studies outside of formal assessment that demonstrates mastery of and engagement in the subject;
b) Overall academic performance in the student’s award course, including GPA, whether the student has failed other subjects, received academic cautions or had a finding of misconduct made against them.
