Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for one candidate to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) titled “Rehabilitation in the home after hip fracture: right care, right time, right place, right choice” with A/Professor David Lim from IMPACCT: Improving Palliative, Aged and Chronic Care through Clinical Research and Translation, Faculty of Health, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and Conjoint Professor Justine Naylor and Dr Thuy Anh Bui from Whitlam Orthopaedic Research Centre.

The PhD will comprise a series of projects that explore the cost and other aspects of early supported discharge (ESD) programs such as hospital in the home (HITH) and rehabilitation in the home (RITH).

This area is highly relevant to healthcare providers worldwide and is currently a priority for NSW Health. The thesis is part of a larger volume of related work undertaken in the South West Sydney Local Health District. The primary focus is ESD programs after low-trauma hip fracture, but there is potential for the thesis to have a broader scope.

The student will collect data at Liverpool, Bankstown and Fairfield Hospitals and in participants' homes.
