If you are an international student from Vietnam applying for a PhD at UTS, you may be eligible for this scholarship
UTS has partnered with the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) in Vietnam to provide PhD scholarships under Project 89 - a national initiative to develop Vietnam's next generation of researchers and academics.
Value and duration
This Vietnam government scholarship (Project 89) covers for a maximum of 3 years and 6 months.
The Vietnam government provides a scholarship fund:
- a tuition fee scholarship of up to $25,000 USD per academic year (2025 rate)
- a stipend scholarship of $1,120 USD per month (2025 rate)
- an international return airfare and travel allowances
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the time spent in Australia (up to $1,000 USD per year)
UTS provides:
- a scholarship for 3.5 years to support the full tuition fee (supplement the Project 89 funding), being the difference between the tuition fee scholarship provided by the Vietnam government (Project 89) and UTS' tuition fee
- a supplementary living allowance in addition to the stipend provided by the Vietnamese government under Project 89 to bring the total stipend to the value to the UTS base stipend rate for that year (ie. the current 2025 rate is $37,000 AUD per year) to support students whilst in Australia
