The Faculty of Health is seeking one candidate to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
We have an exciting research opportunity for outstanding PhD candidates to work collaboratively on a NSW Health-funded project, ‘Caring for our community in a new home: End-of-life care for refugee communities’, to investigate the end-of-life and palliative care needs of refugee populations in NSW.
We are particularly interested in a qualitative project that fits within the scope of the mixed-methods approach of this research. The project is linked to a larger Australian National Health and Medical Research Council funded Ideas Grant, ‘Creating Health in a New Home’, a transformative approach to building evidence for refugee health across generations.
The PhD candidate will work collaboratively with a team of investigators, postdoctoral fellows and other PhD students, with principal supervision from Professor Angela Dawson. The research involves strong engagement with community and health services stakeholders. The successful applicant will be based within a rich research culture within the Faculty of Health, UTS Sydney and collaborate with partners in health services and community organisations.
We are looking for someone who has an honours degree or a research background (thesis via other postgraduate degree or publications). The applicant should have some experience in qualitative data collection and analysis and a passion to collaborate with refugee communities in addressing health issues. Prior research experience in refugee health is desirable but not required. We particularly encourage people of refugee backgrounds to apply.
